Ward, Hopkins, Bika, Castillo are some of my picks for the fighters who'd regularly fight dirty and try to mix in a low blow, headbutt or an elbow in the combination to add an extra layer to their offense and give the opponent something to think about. What are your picks?
Fury's inside mauling game is untouchable Guess it helps being the naturally biggest man in the division, but nobody else even comes close. hyper aware of his positioning.
Good post, Hopkins was a super dirty, super smart fighter. Ward kinda the same but Ward needed the ref's on his side. Hopkins could stealth hus ditryness to any ref. The ref's helped Ward fight dirty. John Ruiz got the same treatment. Jeff Fenech was a great, dirty fighter.
Ward's inside and clinch game was more dynamic than Hopkins and his offense was better, however Hopkins was extra sneaky with his dirtiness and like you said he could get away irrespective of the ref. I remember watching Pascal mimic Hopkins flurrying with his head down in Face off with Kellerman and at that time I hadn't watched Hopkins fight , so I was surprised when I saw Hopkins actually do that weird windmill with the head down in the Calzaghe fight, made me chuckle.
Yeah, Hopkins was 'the best' dirty fighter. Real street smart individual. Take Andre Golota, for example, a really good fighter at his best but 'moronically' dirty.
And then there's Fenech, who I included in my post, who would win a street fight, everyday of the week but was given a very long leash in the ring in his title fights in Australia.
If you want to see a dirty fighter, watch Nedal Hussein v Pacman, in Pacs earlier days, incidentally Hussein was trained by Fenech.
