Which featherweights thoughout (any decade) could have beaten Arguello at 130?

Camacho started his career at featherweight.

 

While I think the world of Alexis Arguello, great fighter, true professional, and gentleman, I think had he lived, Salvador Sanchez would have moved up comfortably and outpointed Alexis. Styles make fights, Sanchez had the movement, stamina, and ring intelligence to accomplish this win, plus he was a very clean fighter unlike his counterpart.

 

Some solid shouts here. Personally, I think Pacquiao's speed and power would have been a big enough issue that he could win.

 

Name the professional fights Camacho had at Featherweight please Mark.

The title of this thread specifies 130 lbs though, which is super featherweight aka junior lightweight. Isn’t that the weight class Floyd started out in as a professional?

Damn right Pacman in this list. Arguello got hit a whole lot by volume punching Pryor and southpaw banger Ganigan. Pac has both those elements and a superb chin. He settled more into his style at 130 and became more complete. He would give Alexis a good run for his money.

 

Pac would be interesting but I think his southpaw stance puts him at risk of that straight right hand of AA. No doubt Pac's speed and volume would trouble AA but that straight right hand is Taylor made for a volume punching southpaw. I could see Pac getting caught.

I always thought Pedroza would have been an interesting fight for Alexis. I would favor Sanchez to beat him but it would be close.

 

Arguello slowly adjusted to southpaws. He always won.

 

I don't think that Arguello would necessarily look for the straight right vs Pac, at least not early. He would, in my opinion, shade to his right to make Pac move to his left; he would be looking to hit him to the body coming in with his right uppercut, and going out with his long left over Pac's right shoulder. That left hand would, over time, keep Pac in front of him.
It wouldn't suprise me if he won the fight with that left hand.
