You could watch any of Cooper's big fights in the 90s and you're getting a banger.

Katsidis Vs Graham Earl was a great one too. Katsidis had some absolute wars in the ring.

Wasn't it the fight where the ref refused to accept the thrown towel by the corner?

Man I really thought Echols was done for in the second, what a comeback.

    Thanks for posting this!

Charles Brewer is the picture of a snake-bitten fighter. This would've been a fair stoppage under normal circumstances. However, after a 3-knockdown second round, Brewer deserved a chance to fight through the fog of war. That said, I think Brewer's sturdier chin worked against him. Echols went down from one-two combinations, whereas Brewer stood up, Bobblehead style, to 5, 6, 7, punches at at a time. Barring a big punch that Echols didn't see, I think Brewer was on his way to being KO'd.

Echols's post-fight interview was VERY interesting.

    1. No rematch for a fight he was lucky to win.
    2. He thought he deserved a big money fight with Trinidad.
    3. He mentioned a fight with a PRIME Roy Jones.
    4. He called Calzaghe the best fighter at 168. This was a few years before Calzaghe validated his standing in the sport with victories over Lacy, Kessler, Jones, and Hopkins.
    5. He came over to shake hands with the referee.

    A few more observations:
    1. Michael Ortega hasn't aged.
    2. I miss Bobby Czyz.
    3. Dan Birmingham is severely underrated. His instructions to Echols "you need to punch with him" was spot on.

I also felt Brewers deserved more time, but understand why Ortega stopped it, Brewers had just taken three or four huge bombs, and then 15 seconds later a barrage of unanswered punches.

I love this short fight, it had everything compacted into seven minutes.

Valuev Ruiz trilogy. There's even an urban legend that they fought only once, but the fight was so exciting that it feels like a trilogy.
