My take is that he was a big puncher , had poor balance which made him look like he was gonna go down on a whiffed left hook( looked atrocious in Winky Wright fight), not the best boxing skills but great stamina. HOFer based on resume and the guys he beat(no credit for ODLH) but not quite a name to remember when talking about skills. What's your take on it?
My FAVORITE fighter of that era.. Not RJJ, ODLH, FMJ, this was my Guy. Big puncher, BIG heart, underrated skills, though he'd NEVER confuse you for Parnell Whitaker lol .... Puerto Rico literally stood still when this man fought... Personally he rivals Pacquiao and JCC with making his people proud. As time goes by, I still think he'd KILL today's welterweights WITH the exception of Terrence Crawford
One of Puerto Ricos finest and one of the biggest punchers ever. He was one of the most exciting fighters of his time i still remember his awesome streak between Oscar and Hopkins were he beat the likes of Reid ,Vargas and Joppy and every fight was an event and a party with all the boricuas that loved Tito filling up the arenas and Tito repaying them with great fights. After Joppy he was at worst the number two pound for pound with manny ppl in the media having him number one. His return against Mayorga was crazy too with one of the best fight athmospheres ive ever seen . Oh man those were exciting times i miss Tito .
Even though I know this is a synonym for Puerto Ricans, dunno why every time I see this word I imagine bikini clad girls .
A legit ATG who's somewhat hampered by factors outside of his control. Prime Whitaker ducking him Getting the decision over ODLH Prime Hopkins being a legend. Tito was legit and was ****ing awesome for a very long time. People struggle to see past the Oscar and Hopkins fights, and I get why, because they're his best two opponents, but they're bloody brilliant boxers themselves. Tito was never on Hopkins level as a MW, but he was definitely on the level of guys like Oscar and Mosley.
Standing in front of him in the vicinity of his left hook was very dangerous , Hopkins always great gameplans though, watching his and Winky Wright's fight with Tito kinda marred my first impression of him.
Tito is an ATG and he did beat ODLH. Legitimate 3 weight division world champion. Fought the best and beat the best.
Yes he d Yes he did beat Oscar he knows it, I know it and Oscar knows it deep down. There was a reason he got on his bike and ran in the championship rounds no doubt because he tasted the power in Tito’s left hook.
Oh yes he really was. Can you imagine how explosive it would have been had he and my African Brother Ike “Bazooka” Quartey fought. I think Tito would have prevailed in a brutal battle.
