If Roy Jones never moved up to Heavyweight and came back down to Light Heavyweight would he have fallen off so fast? How would the latter part of his career be?

You don't think his punch resistance suffered from losing so much weight even a little?

I think he should have retired after beating Ruiz but that’s me talking with a pair of hindsight glasses on.

There's still a possibility Tarver sparks him out with or without the weight draining from HW issues. He was a good fighter.

Even if he gets past Tarver, the big question is: does he know when to quit? His biggest obstacle was himself.

He wouldn't hold a win over Ruiz.

His age would have could up with in a few years. He beats Tarver easily but continues to fight. Eventually somebody beats him.

It would be slightly worse because he wouldn't've become heavyweight champion, the weight cut may have affected him slightly, but once you get to 35, which he was at the time of his fist real loss, you start to decline physically at that age

Should have retired after the first Tarver win. When he knew he lost a step

His punch resistance suffered because Roy didn’t listen to:

    1. His doctors
    2. His trainers
    3. Every other boxer in the world
Roy was knocked out cold by a clean Tarver punch. When that happens to the brain, the actual physical brain, it needs time to recover. Usually between six months and one year. Roy decided to fight again in four months because his ego was destroyed.

Roy was hit clean again (Johnson) and when the second brutal knock out in a row happened, he hadn’t fully recovered from Tarver yet. This led to permanent punch resistance loss.

There is a great video of Manny Steward talking about it, if I can find it I’ll edit this and add the clip in.

Blimey he hadn’t looked himself for years and years anyway at that point.

    It was getting boring.

    You're clueless.

Losing that much weight so soon, feeling terrible and being old was a recipe for a KO.

I do wish Roy (he does too) wishes he would have stopped off at CW.

How do you think he deals with Jirov and others of that era?
