Only took him 6 rounds to figure out a faded Oscar.

So far from the GOAT it's silly.

Winning 8-4 counts as doing well in my book. Oscar wasn't impressive even when he had FMJ along the ropes. Punching the air, shoulders or forearms.

    Not in mine.

Passing of the torch fights should be more straightforward...

Did you expect Mayweather to knock the bigger man out?

I expected the younger man to deal with the past prime, old fighter.

Toney had every bit as much natural talent as Floyd, possibly more and he had balls ten times the size. He did not have the dedication to the sport Floyd did. Not even close.

I’m not taking a side but I think it gets overplayed how done he was.

Toney’s Achilles heel seemed to be his footwork ...George Foreman pointed it out in the second Montell Griffin fight

James Toney. He took tough fights against prime opponents. James even beat heavyweights that were way bigger than him. He ducked no one.

Just an all around better fighter IMO.

I think Toney has the biggest balls in boxing. Guy would fight whoever, wherever, anytime, anywhere.

A lot of similarities in their styles, they came from the lineage and were taught in similar schools. I would rather watch Toney fight, without a doubt. If Mayweather had been as confident in himself as was Toney- or, if he had been as willing to fight anybody, any size, any time, anywhere- there is no way that he would have been undefeated. But he took control of his career and put himself in a position to pick his spots, whereas Toney was too often in the position of needing somebody else to make money.
Floyd may have been more aggressive in his career if his hands had stayed healthy but you wonder if he knew that, in addition to the tradition of Mayweathers with fragile hands, he was worried about the other Mayweather tradition of not taking a punch too well.
I have a lot of respect for Mayweather because he worked hard, he looked out for himself and charted his own path. And he was willing to share his knowledge, boxing and business, with younger fighters that he thought had potential. But, in my opinion, he was a business guy that used boxing to make a ton of money. James Toney was a fighter that hoped to get paid.

His wins are really awesome. Floyds step up from feather all the way up to Canelo-weight was pretty crazy career work. But Toney mixed it up with the guy who crushed Lennox, Sam Peters was a bad dude too the amount of actual size he forfeit was insane. It would be like Hagler getting in the ring with BoneCrusher Smith yeah the skill level gulf would be immense but just the disparity between them...
