If he could stop geniue HWs with a single body punch, while himself weighting around MW limit, then I guess his punching technique was fine. Certainly better than yours.
The people who are the most dismissive of old timers based on footage, always seem to be the most clueless regarding what they are actually looking at.
Those "HW's" weren't exactly big you know. His punching technique looks dreadful, it's there to see for anyone. And fyi, I'm a welterweight, so of course I'm not gonna compare myself to guys way above my weight class
Ruhlin was legitimately HW sized. Corbett was lean at 180 lbs. Jeffries was massive. Did his KO punch on Corbetr looks "dreadful"? Is so, could you elaborate why?
So that's just 2 men. A 180 lbs man is no proper HW. That's just 1 body punch, and the footage doesn't exactly show punch mechanics. And for the rest of the fight, he's garbage.
I didn't say that Corbett was proper HW, but he didn't have small frame. He carried 190 lbs very well. Slowed down version shows it well enough. I also disagree that the rest of the fight show his punches in bad light. His straight left were quick and powerful, his body punches were sound. Again - if you see any problems, describe them in a bit more nuanced way than "he was garbage".
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. If I have to explain the different boxing styles to somebody, or what an infighter is, or how the different stances work, then I tend not to value their opinion of how a fighter looks on film very highly.
I would think, that most posters here in Classic are aware of what an infighter is, and don't need to have different boxing styles explained to them! But if they don't agree with you, you somehow feel it's your job to explain to them what they are missing? Could it not be, that they aren't missing anything - but simply don't share your opinion(s)?
You're creating a fallacious false dichotomy here. Anybody who disagrees with any of Janitor's opinions does, in fact, need infighting and boxing styles explained to him. This is even true of Janitor's non-boxing opinions, like his favorite color.
