For instance, the Sims Act (1912 after the Johnson vs. Flynn fight), which banned the interstate transportation of fight films till 1940. It wasn't allowed to watch films of fights, which took place in another state. This caused severe financial losses to the sport.

Of course, there were other acts/laws, famous rule changes as well as very famous historical/political/social events etc. which influenced the history of boxing. If you like, add more to get a summary/overview of this topic.

Well the biggest in my lifetime would probably be the breakup of the Soviet Union and end to communism in those countries, allowing the influx of Eastern Europeans into the pro game.

Victorian middle class morality basically killed off bareknuckle pugilism, just like it did to bear baiting and dog fighting.

It drove bare knuckle fighting and dog fighting underground.

    Probably did end bear baiting.

True, yes. From my perspective, when your sport has been whittled down to the point where Joe Savage is your best guy, it's essentially dead.

    1) There’s a gap between the end of ‘official’ bareknuckle boxing and Joe Savage’s day, and probably some pretty rough customers who could fight were practitioners.

    2) Joe Savage was a con man. It’s very possible he’d never been in a fight in his entire life.
