This is what I think as well. The meds causing water retention possibly combined with Ali’s body not being able to train as hard and effective as when he was younger before the Parkinson’s set in.

Dr. Ferdie Pacheco once said that he thought Muhammad Ali's Kidneys were failing him, he urinated blood after one of his post exile bouts. When your Kidneys start to fail, you retain water, I should know, I am on Dialysis 3 times a week for 4 hours.

Probably a combo of age and maybe a little to much eating and not enough training.
But, then again he got to the top twice, no three times and made numerous defence s against some of the best heavyweight s in history.. So it didn't count against too much.

Holyfield was a known fitness freak. Ali wasn't the health nut that Holyfield was. Ali never lifted weights as well. Holyfield did.

I disagree with that. Most Parkinson's patients are only using L-Dopa, which raises dopamine levels, and maybe something like gabapentin. Parkinson's will make a person look cut from the muscle tension. Look at Terry Norris. He looks nothing like Ali.

Yeah, it's in King of the World for example. He was out travelling around parts of Africa and the Middle East. When started training again, for the rematch that was originally schedudeled for November '64, he was 20 lbs over weight.

Yes, because on Nov 13 1964, while watching a movie on television at his hotel with one of his cornermen, Drew Bundini Brown, Muhammad Ali was stricken with Inguinal Hernia, he had to be rushed to the hospital for Emergency Surgery, which if not operated immediately could have proven fatal. The 90 minute operation was performed. The fight had been scheduled for Nov 16 1964 in Boston. Under Doctors orders Ali could not train for at least 6 months. The new date was of course May 25 1965 in Lewiston, Maine. This postponement really upset Sonny Liston as he felt he was better prepared this time around.

He wouldn't be able to compete with kidney failure. Peeing blood after fights is pretty common though.

And good luck. I actually met a guy with zero kidneys last week and he was doing well, so there's hope
