Eating disorders and weight cutting have long been in boxing. I remember reading about a bantam in the 80s who was doing crazy weight cuts and was bulimic…. The day before weigh in rule came about due to these issues. I assume certain fighters were still piling on weight after the weigh in, but what’s more scary is the ones entering the ring without recovering fully from the weight cut.

They don't prove that Tiger was training down from 167 when he was much younger. 7 pounds wouldn't have created a problem for Tiger even back in the day. Secondly, why are 30 pound cuts taken as the norm when they are very clearly not? There was only one mention of a purported 30 pound cut in this thread, but it remains unsubstantiated despite being called out. Again, let's circle back to Gatti and examine this in-era comparison: why is Foster more like Gatti, and not someone like Vernon Forrest? Both Gatti and Forrest entered the ring in their primes in the high 140's or sometimes low 150's. Why couldn't Forrest ever make 130 to become Godzilla? Why didn't Tszyu or any of the people we have numbers on, for that matter? Why are you so sure Foster makes 160 without breaking a sweat, when he had to sweat to make 175? Even if we take it for a fact that modern techniques have vastly improved, there is a limit to how much you can continue to drain a drained fighter.

Foster was 182 for Ali. Presumably he didn't dehydrate himself for that. Which modern division's in-ring unofficial weights cluster around the 182 mark? That's probably the safest answer for what Foster might have been able to dry out to. EDIT: According to the website I posted of the guy who collects unofficial weights (for whatever reason) from HBO, lightheavyweight and supermiddleweight both have a fair number of fighters in the low 180s on fight night. Middleweight 180 pound guys are very rare, though. So supermiddleweight is probably the lowest one that we can postulate with reasonable certainty, unless I'm missing something?
