If you are familiar with Bob Foster, he often said that he ate and drank before weigh in to get close to 175. No way on earth he ballooned to 182 if he weighed 171 a week before the fight.
Once again, if you weigh in at noon and fight at 8 the very last thing that you are going to do is eat and drink a bunch; you maintain that discipline because the last thing in the world that you want is to get in the ring with a full stomach. The focus was on making weight, not on blowing up in the 36 hours between weigh in and fight.
3-4 pounds is probably plausible if you sweated off that much in the morning before the fight. But Foster never did that.

Do we have a source for those Foster weight quotes?

It would be weird and probably pointless for the guy to make something like that up, so that would be helpful to know.

They were in the boxing magazines back in the day. He said it in just about every one of them so, if you googled Bob Foster interviews, you will probably find one.

I don't really see Foster at 168, especially as a career. He might be able to fight at that weight for a couple fights but definitely not a career. He was a pencil at 175, it would be interesting to see how he'd do as a cruiserweight.

Not very well. The heavyweights that stopped him were cruisers by today's standards.

The weigh in was not necessarily at noon and the ffigt was not necessarily at 8.

I would hope that this thread more than shows my familiarity with Foster. What we know about Foster is that he was a 6'3" light heavyweight with a 79" reach. He never once weighed in below 170 pounds, and would sometimes go north of 180, even against fellow light heavyweights.

Meanwhile, Gene Fullmer had fights below 150, and had a decade's disadvantage in weight management. Fullmer gained the weight from the morning of the fight, as was the norm.

You fundamentally do not understand the changes in weight management.

I think that assertion is more suited to yourself since you think Foster can make 147 just because Hearns can.
