I hated Naseem Hamed but he brought me unbridled joy watching him get schooled by MAB so I have mixed feelings really.

I do feel shortchanged that I didn’t get to see Morales, JMM or Pacquiao trounce him as well.

Patterson was not really in charge of who steps into the ring for his title though That falls onto his manager. Still he did step in with Liston, so props for that. I never meet Patterson when he was alive, but by accounts from others, he was a very likeable guy.

That is a good point, and I have known that for a long time. I forgot to dig back into my memory. That would be C'us D'Amato's fault, trying to protect his fighter from genuine lethal competition.

I dislike Floyd Patterson for all the right reasons:

    1) He disgraced the heavyweight championship by letting an amateur with no professional experience fight for the most important and celebrated prize in all of sport at the time.

    2) His classless attacks on Muhammad Ali — saying he was fighting to bring the championship back to American, his attacks on Islam as a religion (while he is a staunch Catholic — a sect that has waged wars and slaughtered thousands). Floyd went as far to say that a Muslim holding the heavyweight title disgraced boxing and that he was on a “moral crusade” to take it from Ali for that reason (as if a member of the Catholic sect that has harbored and offered refuge to pedophiles for decades and allowed them to keep molesting children can claim moral high ground).

That doesn’t sound likable to me, to paint a man (Ali) who won a gold medal for his country at the Olympics as a non-American because of his religious beliefs, which were so deep that he was willing to give up his title by refusing induction in an unjust war for them.

Shame on Floyd. Screw that guy.

No. I don't think there is really. Not so much boxers, but politicians, that's a different matter!

Completely dittto! I would add Duva himself to the list. Probably all his cherrypicking fighters too. The whole clan except Kathy.

But he DID beat Hagler, the Greatest Middle in history in my opinion.

I don't think that should count. After all, that's what they're there to do. I think when it becomes a merciless beat down like the Mercer-Morrison affair, that's when it's gone too far.

The key words!!!! I love Hagler too. But greatest ever is tough call at Middleweight and losing to Leonard and fighting nonmiddleweights yr final 3& 1/2 years lost Hagler that chance.
