Holyfield made mediocre guys look amazing such as Cooper or Ruiz. But when he stepped his game up, he could be absolutely vicious and competitive against top level opponents like Tyson and Bowe. To an extent, Floyd did this going life and death with Maidana when on paper that should have been an easy win.
Benitez had significant brain-damage. Best example for the OP, Rigondeaux. Look what he did against Casimero.
Holyfield should've stuck to the plan and boxed in the first Bowe fight ,the exchanges hurt him more than Bowe , Bowe was too big, strong and skilled to get blown away by the relentlessness of Holyfield.
Yeah it was entertaining but he really started getting his ass kicked toward the end. Too brave for his own good. It's hard to tell who was truly the better fighter since the 1st match he fought dumb, the 2nd match was interrupted and the 3rd match Holyfield had serious health problems and was pretty shopworn. I think Bowe is slightly better h2h in a war but Holyfield is more consistent, reliable, and well rounded.
I nominate Chris Eubank Snr - I cannot remember the amount of times we watched him struggle with inferior opponents.
