Or get this, maybe just MAYBE, it's because Liston was a force in his era that brutalized almost everyone he stepped in the ring with before he faced Ali ? Don't get me wrong i find Liston overrated too but you're pretty clueless when it comes to classic boxing.
Look at Liston's resume. Every HW champion after him would crush all of Liston's opponents. Classic boxing is clueless when it comes to "boxing", "logic" and "evidence".
EVERY HW champion after him would crush all of Listons opponents ? I don't think I'd favor Ken Norton, Pinklon Thomas, Herbie Hide, Tommy Morrison or Bruce Seldon to beat Cleavland Williams just to name a few Liston did feast on mostly cruisers but every champion after him ? No
I'd bet on the following against prime Sonny: Great boxers (Ali, Holmes, maybe Johnson.) Great Boxer-Punchers (Louis, Holyfield, Lewis). Foreman, maybe Jeffries. There may be others who would have beaten him by taking him deep, but I wouldn't be putting any money on it.
Great post Swag. There are very few id pick to win. Ali Louis Lewis…and that’s it. Even Louis I hesitate but I think his speed would beat Liston to the punch everytime. I would never count out the likes of Holmes Marciano Tyson Frazier Liston and Wlad to put up a good fight and maybe even split a few wins. But I wouldn’t bet on them.
Thats a fact and really a problem assessing Liston H2H. Lack of knowledge how he´d do against modern 215+ HWs. Because of it, I would make most HW ATGs that came after him as the favorite. Thats a problem, correct. For example, I might choose Corrie Sanders to stop all the fellows Liston stopped. Or Frank Bruno. Or Ernie Shavers. Lemon Brewster. Or even guys like McCall, Rahman or early Ray Mercer. Most certainly David Tua for example. Question is would it be as decisive ? Two one-round wreckings over Patterson? But yes, 190-CW Floyd Patterson had a "chin problem" also...
Maybe but not EVERY heavyweight champion after him, also i don't think bruno would beat Cleavland Williams, i think Williams speed would give Bruno serious issues and he'd eventually land a bomb, though i wouldn't confidently pick williams. But that is the truth, Liston feasted on cruiserweights, LHWs and you occasional heavyweight i guess, he's never fought any decent big guys like Bowe, Vitali or Lewis or even guys like Sanders or Golota
I was talking about ATGs. Best versions of Foreman Holmes Tyson Holyfield Lewis Wlad Fury I´d pick him to beat Frazier pretty sure. Younger Bruno went 5 Tyson and 7 with young aggressive Lewis, while Williams could be hurt pretty quickly. Believe Bruno was more durable, but yes, Williams would have a speed & agility advantage.
Cooney blast him out in 2. Mercer vs Liston would be a dream fight. Vitali and Wlad would both KO him.
none of those louis era dudes would compete with son or any other big name in 70s it's dumb to say they would
wonder why people rank son high h2h vs skilled boxers he wasnt hard to hit slow bad footwork he is not top 10
