1. Lost to Hunter, Zhang, Mike Wilson, Robert Alfonso and Rivas in the amateurs as an 18/19 year old, one mildly notable win against 2011 Pan American Games SHW bronze medalist Geraldo Bisbal 2. When nearly 25 years old and 23-0 at the very end of 2014, lost several rounds over 10 to a washed up, 38.5 year old chinny journeyman Liakhovich in America 3. Lost a controversial 12 round decision against fringe contender Parker in NZ for a vacant title 4. Is understandably frustrated but spends 15 months moping and pigging out before losing weight and getting back in the saddle against the ultra-glass chinned journeyman Devin Vargas 5. Lost several rounds over 10 to a washed up, 39 year old journeyman Kevin Johnson in America 6. Dumped by Arum’s Top Rank as Ruiz is regarded as an undisciplined, ordinary fighter who isn’t going anywhere, joins PBC as one of their lesser regarded heavyweights 7. Went the distance in 6/10 of his previous fights pre-AJ: 9/10 were against journeymen, 3/5 of the journeymen that he couldn’t stop within the 8 or 10 round distance were irrefutably chinny 8. Comes in on short notice as a replacement for big baby Miller as a 25-1 underdog and destroys unified belt holder AJ in MSG, getting off the canvas in the 3rd to drop AJ 4 times on route to making him quit in the 7th, becomes the first Mexican heavyweight titlist 9. Doesn’t train, parties regularly and balloons up 22 lbs from the Dimitrenko fight 40 days prior to AJ 1 to 284 lbs for the AJ rematch 6.5 months later: 35 lbs heavier than he was 3.5 years prior against a 45.5 year old, long-retired Ray Austin (and Ruiz was very fat back then) which proved that Ruiz had lost any semblance of motivation and had become complacent in the extreme 10. An absurdly obese, slow as molasses Ruiz gets jabbed and clinched all night by a nervous, ultra-defensive AJ, loses a clear 12 round UD and is immediately relieved of his titles in one of the most embarrassing, self-destructive attempted defences of all time 11. Enters a well-deserved period of depression in which he grotesquely balloons up to 310 lbs by his own admission (the real figure is anyone’s guess) 12. Eventually sheds at least 54 lbs of blubber in fat camp with Reynoso but is still extremely obese, returns to the ring on May 1st after 17 months of despondency to get dropped in the 2nd, almost dropped twice and hurt multiple times in a 12 round war against a 40 year old, 21 months inactive/retired, injury prone, coming off a loss Arreola 13. Underwent knee surgery in August just before he turned 32 and claimed to be planning to return to action in December 2021 14. Once again tries to duck Ortiz, who is now officially 43+ year old, with 5 full rounds in the last 30+ months, who’d suffered 6 knockdowns (2 in his previous fight against Charles Martin) and 2 KO defeats in 37 pro fights. Ruiz attempts to join Triller and signs to fight an almost 3 year inactive boxer and washed up kickboxer in Mexico, mid-July 2022 but is instead held to his contract by PBC to fight Ortiz in the “late summer”
You are correct. Although he does have natural talent, he has ruined himself by indolence and overeating and is now no threat to any top heavyweight.
He can be champion again, but his training camps need to be actual training camps, not fat camps. His last fight against Arreola hurt him because he spent most of his training losing weight, very little on actual boxing and ring generalship under Reynoso. He needs to do his fat camp THEN begin is 8 week training camp for any upcoming fight. If he gets back to the same form against Parker he can definitely beat AJ a 3rd time around.
I doubt he will ever be a champion again. He will repeat the same cycle we see of other fat heavyweights from the past. Arreola, Solis, Chambers, Toney, etc. Maybe lose a little weight (but is still fat) fight some bums, gain weight again, fight some bums. Maybe rides the bum carousel to mandatory spot, sits on that for a while gets fatter, loses in his title shot. Has excuses...repeat the cycle till he's too old to be taken even as a joke.
He is over for me since he weighed 250 kg in the Joshua rematch. With the right tactics, he could have completely ended bodybuilder's career in the rematch. He didn't even try to cut the ring. He's thinner now but I don't care anymore. Maybe Canelo will help.
Joshua will simply jab and move, mixing in a few right hands. Ruiz is too short and slow on his feet to corner Joshua.
Joshua beat him convincingly in the rematch and Ruiz ate himself out of talk for a third (that post fight interview was cringey), Fury outmoves and outboxes him, I think Wilder stops him. I was looking forward to the possible Ortiz fight as it was an interesting clash and something you would of seen on boxing after dark back in the day.
Oh boy, another @NEETzschean thread created to push a pro Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder agenda while downplaying Joshua's resume. Boring(LOL)
Ruiz partied instead of spending 5 months working on cutting off the ring. He didn't need to go in heavier for the rematch. AJ being lighter means his chin is going to be worse. Whoever becomes undisputed champion won't hold all the belts for very long. Ruiz could get a title shot again some point down the line. He and Whyte should fight each other.
