The interesting thing about this fight is that neither man ever faced a fighter with the other’s style. They were close in size and both had very fast hands with deadly left hooks and lethal power. I think it would be a good fight. Frazier had more work rate and better long range stamina while Tyson might have had the better chin and more power. Mike also had a wider arsenal of punches in both the left and right hands. I’m thinking Tyson by stoppage if he can get Joe out of their before about the 7th or 8th round. If it goes late then Frazier’s chances of pulling it off increase
I agree. My laugh was towards his vague and disingenuous reasoning and to a slightly lesser extent thinking Lyle beats Frazier. Kid's an agenda driven tool.
No need to laugh Swag my man. Look at the way Lyle went toe to toe with Foreman and almost took him out. IMO Frazier will have the same faith against Lyle as he had against Foreman. Williams is also a big puncher. If he can land properly, he might beat Frazier too.
I sympathize more with your views on Lyle and Williams, but I ultimately don't see FOTC Frazier losing to either. Just me.
Yes because Lyle=Foreman. Foreman had just come out of a 2 year retirement and was mentally ****ed against Lyle, and fought a style all wrong for him. Lyle suffers the same fate as Frazier did in '73. (It also must be noted Frazier was past his prime against Foreman.) This "Lyle wins because look how he did against Foreman" is so unbeliavably flawed. Using this logic he should've wiped the floor with a past prime and declining Quarry, who Frazier dominated while (Quarry) at his peak. MIGHT. It's very unlikely. Though imo he has a lot better odds than Lyle does. I find it odd that Lyle is seen as Williams superior on this forum when he beat less top ten contenders and has less notable KOs than Williams. Williams was also faster, more versatile, and a much better boxer imo, seeing as how he handled his slickster ,the number 2 rated Machen, much better than Lyle handed his. the unrated (in the first fight at least) Young. Young absolutely dominated Lyle, embarrassing him and won 19 of the 20 rounds they shared together. Williams on the other hand did much better against Machen. Holding him to a draw. A majority draw actually. 2 judges had it a draw while the third had Williams clearly ahead. "Williams the no. 5 contender felt he had turned in an upset. Most of the crowd of 10,000 partial perhaps to the hometown favorite and one judge agreed." Source: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/48465177/the-news-review/ "Williams, a powerful left hooker, shook Machen in the 3rd and 8th rounds" "In a way he's tougher to fight than Liston because he has the speed the other doesn't have. You can't walk around Cleveland like you can Liston." -Eddie Machen Source: https://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Cleveland_Williams_vs._Eddie_Machen But I digress . My point is (imo at least) Williams was much better than Lyle, and if any of them were to beat Frazier it would beat Williams (even so it's very unlikely barring a hail Mary blow).
Off topic, so forgive me, but does anyone really think Tyson was ever 5'11? I've heard from reliable sources he's barely 5'10, if that.
Yikes, I think you fumbled here, my friend. Frazier is almost unanimously considered to have one of the most powerful, effective (if not THE most effective) left hooks in boxing history. Holy and Douglas...not even close. And that's not counting Joe's inside strength, which both Chuvalo and Ali more than attested to.
Overall that's how I look on it. The other hand would be that two come-forward guys could produce infighting opportunities. Tyson was more come-in than stay-in, Frazier was more get in and go to work. Insofar as that happens, it could get frustrating/tiring for Tyson. But I agree that the assets and liabilities favor Tyson, just not to the extent that a Frazier win would be sci-fi.
I saw him one time with Danny DeVito. Mike was looking up at him. I was drinking alot back in those days. I may have been smashed
