Let's start pro boxing from small hall shows.
They too does have prospects who are maybe promising: these usually are matched up with opponents they most likely will win.
Because you better might earn with 10-0-0 prospect than with for example 8-2-0 prospect.

Then there are also lads who not likely ever will be top 100 level fighters but they are " tickets sellers " in this city.
Pro boxing is for purpose to earn money.
Therefore such tickets sellers too usually are matched with opponents they most likely will beat up. :p

More than just this: if such guy is huge tickets seller in this city and doesn't demands too high purses, opponents - bums will be booked to fight with such guys as had been asked by his team, manager and his promoter.

Everyone is happy: for event's promoter usually cheaper is to book 0-8 bum rather than 4-4 journeyman. Guy too maybe is happy: easy work, almost 0 risk here with such 0-8 bum.
Then we might see fights like 7-0-0 boxer vs 0-8-0 bum on fight card.

Such manner with matchmaking might be easily to see on boxers record: you see boxer with maybe even 9-0-0 pro record while he never had fought with anyone who ever had won 1 single pro fight:D. Yeah, opponents with 0-3 ....... even 0-15 and worse pro records in row.
Another stuff that is widely used: to book opponents who did not had won fights during last years despite they maybe have not bad looking records.
Maybe even 10-10 pro record with all ;)10 last fights lost in row. Someone had good record, started accumulate L in long row and maybe even doesn't train anymore. Some ranking he still does have and might be booked.

Corruption in boxing will still continue as long as there are several promotional companies and several sanctioning bodies that continue to exist. Scoring a fight or judging should be based on a rule book just like other major sports and shouldn't be subjective to the eyes or the feeling of the judges.

Matchmaking ( cherry picking ) and short notice for opponents impacts boxing far more than corruption. It is also cheaper to do. Safe and nothing illegal done.

Next: if boxing will not have Multiple promotion companies event's promoters due to their low number will automatically be in huge power position over boxer's promoters, managers and boxers.
It will not make to be a pro boxer as more lucrative career choice, pretty opposite, boxing as career choice popularity will Decline.

Then there if will be just one sanctioning body, they easily might rise sanctioning fees and boxers will have no choice.
Then this 1 single body might ask not 3% or 1,5% but maybe even 30% from purses and why not? If boxers will have no choice.

Also about so called Ali act and glorified Old times pro boxing.
    Then boxer's were almost unprotected.
Not alone that even today event's promoters does not love to disclose how much they had get from broadcasting rights and tickets sales, still now this is more transparent thing than in glorified Old times pro boxing.

In glorified old times boxing might had happened that for example the boxer had sold tickets for 100 bucks.
His opponent's purse maybe 10 bucks, his own purse maybe 30 bucks and event's promoter had 60 bucks from this.
Then from boxer's this 30 bucks purse managers and gyms might had taken even maybe 20 bucks and left the boxer with 10 bucks in pocket.
Only way to reduce this practice was to find another promotion and manager, gym.
Ofc if the boxer was popular and with him sales might been very high, he had some power position in negotiations.

We not rarely worship old era boxing when boxer's managers were able to collect half and even more than half from boxer's fight purse.

Yes sir it is! Makes you wish you were back in 2012 - 2015. Boxing was making a huge comeback only to fall flat on it’s face afterwards.

Coincidentally I don’t post much in the general. Boxing flipping sucks these days. Heavyweight is trash, even though we thought it would get better after Klitschko, no, it only got worse.

Doping is synonymous with elite sport. This forum constantly moans about sauce as if their heroes are all beans and rice. Valdez is no different to any of his peers. To all of the people that believe that anti-doping governance is effective and not corrupt - do you think that this positive test was his first team using sauce?

What a load of absolute tosh.

Would you rather be watching Klitschko against Leapi, Mormeck, Brock, Pudding Pulev, Wach, Thompson, Pianeta and co?

Boxing has been full of chancers and con artists for years, all the belts , all the governing bodies made the sport a botch up that folk couldnt understand, that and dodgy decisions, corrupt refs,- judges - managers, drug doping etc etc, its getting what it deserved ;)

The problems in boxing have been there for decades now.

The main problem is the top fighters trying to avoid eachother whilst being used and manipulated as pawns by their promoters.

Covid has made things much worse and the promoters have more ego than the actual boxers themselves.

I don't consider Holyfield vs Belfort a real boxing match even though it's now classed officially as a pro fight. It's more boxing entertaiment which i don't necessarily think is a bad thing if the fights are exhibitions.

Fighters like Eubank Jr conning the public and avoiding any real tests until the opponent is completely shot and past it. That's a big problem in boxing which i hate.

Too many belts is an obvious issue.

Of course it is far more worse than in Klits era and this is reality and there are proven facts to compare this era with modern era.

Combat sport fans are tribal and nationalistic, if the boxer does have proper passport and promoter, they are yelling how bad Klits era was while their idol climbs up by beating up Klits era leftovers and then NOTHING wrong.

Tirbal fans accuse Klit as a cherry picker while real facts ( stuff strange for tribal fans ) are like these:
When 38 y.o Wlad had fought vs 33 y.o then undefeated Pulev with pro boxing record then 20-0-0 who was not lighter than Wlad, this for them looked not good matchup.
When A.J fought 39 y.o the same Pulev, then nothing wrong because A.J does have more proper for them passport and promoter.
The same Watch: Wlad fought vs then undefeated Watch who had 27-0-0 pro record. Wasn't smaller than Wlad.
All is bad cos Wlad does not have proper origin for these fans.
When Whyte fought vs the same Watch, all is cool because just Whyte does have proper for them passport and promoter.

The same might be told about fights vs the same Povetkin.
Wlad vs then undefeated Povetkin: not enough good, Whyte vs 40 yers 11 months old and 41 years 6 months old Povetkin's versions: for a lot of ppl looks nice and cool.

The same Chisora: Klits haters are claiming that Klits cherry picked opponents.
    If we compare with reality:
Chisora had fight vs Fury, then had fight vs 40 y.o Vitali. He had lost this fight and was enough good for Haye to fight with.
After this: for Fury 2 nd fight, enough good for Whyte to fight with, enough good recently for Usyk, Parker.

It depends what you mean by credibility I suppose.

I'd say boxing is a perfect example right now of capitalism gone too far though.

It's always been prize fighting, but the disparity between earning pay and proving yourself the best is bigger than its ever been before.

It's so far behind UFC right now I struggle to envision it ever reaching its previous heights.

Yes - it's criminal that the best are not consistently fighting the best. But even still, it's better than Wladimir Klitschko beating up old, short, blown up cruiserweight mediocre boxers on quicksand canvases!

Vitali beat up no hopers too, but did it in a more entertaining way and wasn't sparked several times.

You think Wlad knocking over useless midgets or clinching pushing men over was better than the last 6 years of HW boxing you're on a drug named crack.

No it hasn't. It's just that boxing fans and media have become incredibly pessimistic and mean spirited.
