    Marciano is underrated. The only thing you can ask of a fighter for their legacy is to fight the best competition available and try to win. Marciano did that. He beat Charles 2x, Walcott 2x, Archie Moore, Rex Layne, and old Joe Louis.

    Yet everytime someone mentions him against anyone a little bigger or a little faster he gets slaughtered. Now that’s not to say I would pick him against Wlad or Lewis etc. but Marciano would be live against most heavies up through the 1980s.

    Perfectly said! I hate these kind of threads to be honest. So many honorable champions like Marciano that more than proved themselves in their era get called overrated for their efforts. Bad enough most of the great champions of our sport end up broke and dying early because of all that they give. Now they get to be called overrated when they literally cleaned out their division.

    The statistics are impressive:
    49-0-0, only wins;
    43 wins by knockout, 88%;
    Only 2 times down;
    It is unlikely that he was the best (not, he was not the greatest all time), but he was certainly among the best.

    Larry Holmes and Sonny Liston are the two most overrated. Marciano is remembered about right.

    He was the best of his era and clean out his era. You really can not ask much more from him imo.

    I have to say it could be like football when was the last time someone was undefeated the whole season, it’s very hard regardless of how good or bad your opponents are, also he was a heavyweight champ unlike some other people with “padded” records

    Lol Marciano was the most overrated heavyweight of all time. But you know what is worse? His delusional fanboys. Walcott was past his prime, Archie Moore was past his prime, Joe Louis was past his prime. Rex Layne was a bum. If size doesn't matter when it comes to boxing then Canelo Alverez could beat Marciano fight? It is funny how you Marciano fans will say size doesn't matter when it benefits you but then when you say a smaller boxer could beat Marciano you will say size does matter.

    Marciano would get destroyed by any half decent 200 pound fighter from the 1960's on. I couldn't even imagine Marciano even beating any light heavyweights or cruiser weights who were top level.

    You know what you type makes no sense. Because Marciano went undefeated fighting 180 pound fighters like himself that means he was as good at a modern 200 pound fighter? There are no fanboys more biased and clueless as Marciano fanboys. Marciano wasn't a heavyweight by modern standards. Which means Marciano wasn't a top 10 all time heavyweight or even a top 1000. Marciano was a 180 pound club fighter who was lucky that Italian Mob controlled his career.

    Sonny Liston - Debatable.
    Larry Holmes - Definitely NOT overrated in my book. One of the greatest heavies ever. In my lifetime I have him at number 2 on all time great heavyweight list. And number 3 overall just behind Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis.

    True. Muhammad had a lot of respect for Sonny.
