Well, not always. I know guys who had fights cancelled when they had done full ( already paid ) pre fight camps done and this cost money and health ( a lot ). If you do not fight you lost interest about you with time and in general sponsors and promoters are interested in you if you fight more often and are popular.

I even know case when supposed opponent's promoter and manager had expressed in public media that they are ready to pay sum x for fight vs guy while in reality when it is time to sign contract, after almost 2 months long talks appears that they had offered in contract 4X lesser fight purse. I will not mention fighters names here but this is stuff done by PIGS not humans.

Thing is unlike pro wrestling, boxing is not supposed to be a work

Its supposed to be a legit sport where you test your will & skill against another man,

I like pro wrestling,it is what it is,its a weird bizarre industry but its a work,we all know that, boxing is supposed to be real as it gets, this s**t we get in 2021 is pathetic, for every decent fight there is many many "fights" that have no business even being on a card

UFC aswell,at least they book there fights properly and largely have competitive cards

Id rather follow the amateur scene, and the potential stars of tomorrow in gyms up ane down the country than the farce that is currently "pro boxing"

    Great posts this

Its the fickle fans who are fascinated by an "0" that do my head in,id rather follow a "win, lose or draw" kinda guy than some div who is infatuated with an 0 and refuses to truly test himself

A lot of people who are too hung up on an 0 dont understand legitimately tough fights in my personal opinion, its an internet fad,

I literally know no other sport with such a brutal Obsession for old athletes as in boxing. How on earth can new stars emerge if everybody keeps on saying that tyson, ali etc would destroy the newer generation anyway, which is total BS by the way. People rather watch a guy like holyfield at age 55 then any upcoming star.

    We don't have an obsession

Just calm down. The real fights begin soon.

I know it's sexually frustrating waiting for AJ Usyk and Wilder Fury but it will be here soon.

Honestly, I've never seen bigger whiners than some boxing fans. Lots of sports revere athletes of prior generations athletes, and want to see them in action. What do you think baseball old timers games are about? The seniors tour in tennis? And on and on.

People need to take a chill pill. Old guys stepping back in the ring is nothing new. Don't like it? Then don't watch.

Old fellas making a comeback is different from todays one fight exhibitions for £££££.
It dilutes boxing & is turning true fans away. It is becoming a circus.

I didn't see him get destroyed. Looked like a terrible stoppage. I'm not too mad about it because he's 58 and shouldn't be fighting. He seemed to have poor balance but those shots weren't landing and the ones that landed were not too clean.

Wasn't there a lot of these weird exhibitions in the 30s? Is it cyclical?

There is not a sport where the decline of age is more apparent. Boxing is hugely physical, one of the most physically demanding sports

Older tennis players, golf players, snooker players can at least play at a level which resembles the sport

There is a reason we don't see circus games of 50-60 year old NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB players. They stay retired, commentate and do other things.
