Cinderella man gave the wrong impression about Max Baer. They screwed the Baer family. That was not fair.
Agreed. Typical Holywood BS. Same thing happened to Giardello. They showed him hanging on for dear life against Carter when the reality was, he beat Carter cleanly. But portraying Baer as some sort of evil villain was much much worse.
Loved 'Requiem'. The amount of extras from the fight business that were used was impressive. Especially loved that bar sequence at the beginning that panned its way down the bar as they were all watching Quinn get pummeled by this Clay kid. One ex-fighter after another. Gus Lesnevich lighting Paolo Rosi's cigarette was a nice touch.
Creed II is underrated. I always found Ivan Drago the least interesting Rock villain, because he was just a straight up villain. With the first three films, you could easily have rewritten them so that Apollo Creed or Clubber Lang was the hero, and Rocky was the villain. In Creed II, Drago suddenly becomes a much more complex character. When his son is taking a beating on the ropes, he gains his redemption by throwing the towel into the ring, to stop the fight. In the end he cared more about his son's wellbeing than retrieving his family's honor.
To be fair, in the 80's we all view the Russians with that soviet stare and emotionless. Which is why it was kinda of a shock to the world when Olga Korbut cried during the Olympics.
I tell people who don’t really know boxing that there’s more truth in The Great White Hype than in any other boxing movie. It’s also absolutely hilarious. Me and my brothers quote it all the time. Typical great line is when the attorney turns over the contract to promoter Rev. Fred Sultan (Samuel L. Jackson) and says: “Any interpretation will lead to endless litigation. I think it’s our best work.”
Well in the Naked Gun movies, they had the joke on never bet on the white guy, but with today's era that old joke does not fly with the likes of Tyson Fury or when Wlad was ruling the division.
