Steven Blea was the judge behind the 117-110 Valdez-Conceicao score last weekend.

The good news: he is voluntarily retraining and plans to work on his ability to judge in noisy and chaotic situations. To be fair, after all the isolation over the last year many people are dealing with social anxiety on a level they never had before.

The bad news: he still thinks Valdez won, just that it was close and there should have been 2 split rounds

So he offers an apology then states he wasn't wrong about what he's apologized for? He ought to run for political office with that spin job

Manufactured nonsense to try and shift focus from that blatant bribery.

He's saying his score 117-110 is ridiculous but he still thinks Valdez won, just not as much as his scorecard said

Well Valdez did win. Being outraged at the wideness of his score is one thing, being outraged that Valdez won is another.

This sort of thing has happened before. Fans get outraged over an outlier scorecard that had it too wide for their liking, then that morphs into outrage about who won. *cough* Canelo GGG 1.

Of course the same people who fawned outrage over Canelo GGG 1 made the same argument then that this judge is now apoligizing for, that the champ should get the benefit of the doubt in close rounds because he's the champ and the challenger needs to take it to the champ to beat the champ. Remember that whole thing. Now that whole argument has been turned on its head. :eyebrow2:

He’s not embarrassed by the scorecard. He’s embarrassed that he’s being publicly shamed for taking a bribe.

Please, you wouldn't know a decent score card if it took the form of an atom and landed on that big head you own
