For a fight with four 10-8s in six rounds it actually dragged on a bit dully for the most part, Madueño vs. Fredrickson was substantially better in the spot before it on the undercard, but...you're in time for the Mexico vs. PR war in the main event! :ibutt

(of the boxing card, before the rap battle gets underway)

Crazy, feels like yesterday that El Demoledor was a "young lion" going up against Morales and Mosley - and now he's the veteran with a young unbeaten looking to make a stepping-stone of him.

    Round 1

Zorrilla is circling wide and sneaking in some wavy up-jabs after dipping low to his left. Cano throwing everything down the middle, lumping away on Zorrilla's body with plunging double jabs and then putting a right hand into the beard as Zorrilla is dropping and jerking away. Zorrilla overthinking his crinkle-cut shots and getting beaten to the punch, and just flat outworked, by the Mexican with his medium-low hand and foot speed but Energizer Bunny engine.

    10-9 Cano

    Round 2

Zorrilla issues a right hand into the chin past Cano's jab. Cano flurries on the guard as Zorrilla pulls back and moves his right glove to intercept. Zorrilla lands a thudding right hand into the neck and left hand downstairs and Cano spits out his gum shield and takes a knee in a corner, rides out the count, and - QUITS?

    KO2!!!

A stoppage for Zorrilla wouldn't have surprised me but for Cano to just give up, that early in a contest, off basically a flush shot or two - never would have guessed that.

Miguel Cotto in Michael Corleone mode sitting at ringside, barely showing a flicker of any emotion as his protégé scores a career-best victory in emphatic fashion headlining a nationally televised (er, kind of - nationally streamed, at least, but with a sizable audience on Fite.tv even if most of the buyers are tuning in for the rap Verzuz)

16-0 (12) is El Zorro, now.

This was his biggest step-up to date, coming off his previous biggest against Ruslan Madiyev (whose only professional defeat before Zorrilla, ironically, was to Pablo Cano himself)

Ah, this may explain it... when the interviewer asked him about how it felt to go into the annals of the national rivalry as the boricua representative, he bristled (making his translator chuckle) and made a point to state that he fights every bit as much for the DR, as he also has Dominican blood. Cotto not apt to like that very much, and if that's been a recurring argument in-house this union may be doomed to not last. :sisi1

Wow, there was already going to be a significant gap between the fights and the Verzuz even if that went the distance, but with the finish in round 2, we're going to have nearly an hour of dead air until the rhymes start flowing.

They're going to show clips of Dipset vs. Lox to fill time, apparently.

Crack has some real aces in the hole in Technician (same DJ that helped Lox) and Remy Ma (who looks bad as hell), but Ja mostly dominating just singing ballads anyway. Most of Joe's trash-talk attempts ("hand out some baloney sandwiches to all these *****s with all this Fyre/Lollapalooza pop") being rolled and countered by Loki's self-assured calm and connection with the crowd.

Ironically, Zorrilla and Cano both have wins over Madiyev for similar reasons, they lucked out and got conveniently yanked from their matches, due to getting injured while in the process of getting their asses beaten in by a fully in control Madiyev, and a points win was still salvageable.
