Bum of the month club. And even a hat trick for 1 round kos. How would some of those challengers be actually perceived if they were fighting in era s onward from Louis s?
Imagine if fighters today fought as often as Louis did. Now they have a bum of the year and never actually manage to fight the best. Joe had already beaten the best then moved on to bums.
Contextually it was NY and Big City America 'Slang' and Journalist Flare, think of William H Macy in the movie Seabiscuit... they weren't Bums, some might have been Fringe Contenders, rather than Top 10, but the Top 10 aren't always the real top 10 either. the point being most of them were Good & Noted Fighters, which in many a case is better than a lot of the pairings we've often seen in recent decades.
I don’t know how well Bob Pastor and Billy conn would do in today’s heavyweight division given their size. But they would dominate today’s cruisers. Their skill level is leagues beyond anyone over super middle
I made this post before ...in more detail... Prior to Louis the title was defended infrequently and against outstanding or very popular press friendly contenders. Louis defending the belt monthly against anyone in the top 10 was a break from the status quo, and seen as cheapening of the title. He was also you know ..black....therefore he was slanted with the "bum of the month" tag.
As I understood It, it would be like if Joshua suddenly fought every month for 6 months and beat Otto Wallin, Chisora, Helenius, Hunter, Charr, and Usyk. A mix of fringe contenders and contenders.
