He's apparently spent a lot of time shedding weight and working on his cardio. He's going to try box from behind the jab, take that to the bank. I doubt he'll gas fighting like that. On the other hand if he'd come in at 250+ with the idea of blasting Usyk out early, he almost certainly would have.
It seems that AJs whole plan is to come in light and ensure his stamina is as good as it can be - and this seems like a good plan to me. Of course, tbf to Josh, he mostly gasses after trying to put an opponent away after smelling blood - and failing, and it takes some time (3-4) for him to get a 2nd wind. If this lean and carido-oriented AJ can get his 2nd wind in a much shorter space of time, then it makes things that much harder for Usyk IMO. Whether AJ can execute his gameplan (and stop Usyk executing his) is another question. I've always felt the biggest battle for AJ in this fight is not physical, but mental.
Eh, I'd rather he have gone for a power approach rather than match Usyk on boxing. We'll see how it translates. Joshua never is going to be flexible, but of course improving his cardio would be helpful. I expect him to win either way, as Usyk hasn't shown much at HW and is getting long in the tooth.
No, Usyk would have to fight at a very fast pace and I don't see that happening. Heck hardly anyone at heavy sets a fast pace
I believe that if a fighter comes in and puts pressure on Joshua, makes him fight 3 minutes of every round, not nessecarily landing a lot just pressuring him AJ might start to fold around the 10th round
He didn't gas against Ruiz or Pulev. What happened in Klitschko match was a road accident. It was due to Joshua's lack of experience. All lessons are learned and all precautions are taken. It won't happen again When the time comes, Joshua will unleash the destructive heavyweight power on Usyk and make him count the stars. Usyk: BYE-BYE.
FFS... the way some of y'all talk about AJ is as if he's Shannon Briggs or Butterbean level of stamina....
I want to play for a moment the part of a seer. I see Joshua around the 7th and the 9th gassed and bombed by Usyk. I see him while he tries to defend himself like Holyfield with Belfort: nothing... He collapses to the canvas. Concussed. Again. The referee starts the count: One-Two-...-Ten. OUT!!! USyk KO8
Well he is looking very lean so i would hope not,as his current training is geared to better stamina However,i wouldlnt be suprised if he was the usual joshua shtick of coming out all guns blazing, gassing, second win, gassing again, third wind and so on and so on
How hard does Usyk make him work? That's the question AJ has significant, height, reach and potentially weight advantages. If he's able to sit on his jab all night and box conservatively he will be fine. BUT if Usyk is able to use the fantastic footwork, angles etc and outbox him i could see him struggling in the later rounds if Usyk has been able to make him work harder than he wants to. It's a fascinating fight
He only tends to gas out big time when he blows his load up the wall Will he land a shot on Usyk that makes him blow his load up the wall/? Or will Usyk put enough mental & physical pressure in the form of pure outboxing that it makes AJ get a little desperate, work hard and gas out mid fight? When Usyk gets hurt he tends to high guard and ring circle, if he gets caught on the ropes and AJ is hitting arms/gloves/body I see a British judge jumping in prematurely.
Seems to me AJ is going down the maximum stamina and mobility route. Trying to outbox and outfox a master boxer in USyk. The exact opposite to what got him the titles. This is a bad strategy for AJ in my opinion. Stick to what you are good at, I say. Maybe he is hoping Eddie bought all the judges for this fight.
He didn’t gas in the Ruiz rematch. Plus he’s coming in light so he should have better stamina. I think Usyk’s pressure might give AJ trouble but he’s much smaller and doesn’t have HW power to take AJ out early. I copped out and voted “I don’t know” because I keep going back and forth. I could see this fight going the distance or seeing either man get KOd. AJ could get knocked out after gassing and Usyk could get KOd by a Joshua punch. I’m more excited about this fight than I am about Wilder-Fury because it’s more like a 50-50 fight. Fury should knock Wilder out again but both fighters have a very good chance of winning this one. Can’t wait to watch it! Go Usyk!
I just can't see AJ out boxing Usyk. IMO The only chance AJ has is to go right at Usyk and try getting him out early. If he fails, he'll be spent for several rounds.
