Interesting question. I do not think any one fighter would have a monopoly on the title. I believe there would be a merry-go-round of champions amongst the six or seven truly elite heavyweights. The belt would change holders based on the contrasting styles and who matched up better with whom on a particular night. Regarding the two extremes, even amongst the elite there would be two or three who would hold the title longer than others. On the opposite end of the scale, there would be a lesser fighter occasionally winning a title but they would almost certainly lose iin their first defense against a better champ.
I still think Louis takes the 30's and 40's as he did in real life. You think Dempsey and pre Louis Co would of remove the title from Louis during that run? Or would it be that Dempsey and Louis are swapping the titles for 20 plus years until the likes of Walcott and Marciano enter the scene?
Well, the question started with Dempsey's era so I think that he and, occasionally Tunney, would win the tile until Louis came along. I have a hard time believing any of those 1930s guys (Baer, Schmeling, Carnera et al.) would have done much. Louis, mostly, and Dempsey would have dominated until Marciano came along. Then there would have been those three with Tunney, Walcott and Charles offering occasional challenges.
Schmeling might do OK for himself as well. We never saw a rematch with both Louis and Schmeling in their primes. But Schmeling showed he could beat the guy everyone is picking to dominate the 30s and 40s at least once, so...
Upsets has happen. I am pretty sure that while the first fight was being sign, no one pick Schmeling. I am sure Schmeling can nab the title if he catches Louis off guard. Maybe he pulls the trick on the Joe that show up vs Conn1?
Well- disturbing thought is if Bowe never leaves his prime and remained “on” he’d have the skills to put a beating on Ali or Louis. Much as it bothers people Riddick was a great fighter.
That's one problem with this scenario. Fighters with more experience, without any miles on the clock. Dempsey with both his peak athleticism, and the maturity he had against Tunney would be a really hard one to beat.
