Um...complicated. I like Joshua, and to me, the Ruiz loss was a one-off. I don't know what the hell happened, but it looks to me like had has righted the course, and I don't expect it to happen again. Provided that it is a fair decision, a victory over Usyk to me would be epic. I narrowly think Usyk will be the better man, but I like them both, think it is a great fight, and will stand by the victor, whomever he may be, as having beaten a great opponent. Fact is, about half of the posters here don't think much of Usyk at heavy, and about a third would not think more of Joshua if he knocked out King Kong. I think that on September 26, we are all going to have the same preconceived notions we had on September 25. For various reasons, Joshua just polarizes folks like that.
If Ruiz ended up being a really good HW then possibly. But fatboy just got dropped by Chris Arreolas fossil and barely squeaked out a points win. Its aging horribly.
Yes. Youtube have agreed to delete all footage of AJ stumbling around the ring if he wins decisively next weekend.
No, beating Ruiz did as much as he could do to extinguish that loss. Lewis knocked Rahman out cold, and it didn't erase the memory.
Well, Patterson managed really avenge loss: Johansson KOed him and Patterson had won 2 rematches vs Johansson after this. He was 2-1 vs Johansson and looks that this first loss had not been incriminated to him after trilogy.
A win over Usyk would be the best victory of Joshua’s career so far, however even a great win will not remove the fact from Joshua’s legacy that he did quit in the Ruiz 1 loss . jmo
Did any big fight win in history wipe out the memory of a previous unexpected loss? This content is protected
Not for me. The Ruiz loss for me was about a Joshua who took his eye off the ball, made the same mistake he did when he fought Whyte, got countered when going for a KO and this time wasn't able to regroup. He had learned from the Whyte fight, but against Ruiz he was more focused on promoting his brand to conquer the American market and paid a dear price and probably ruined any hope he'd ever be a huge star in the US with what was an embarrassing loss. For AJ to remove the stain of that shocking loss he needs more than one good win or even a great win. It not that Ruiz was better than him he proved that in the rematch what Joshua needs to prove his he can remain focused and not get upset again when he's in against another seemingly over matched opponent. It's easy to be focused when your facing someone like Usyk who's seen as a threat much harder to sustain that focus when you're expected to roll over your opponent. Joshua needs to remain champion and show dominance over several years, beating all comers if he's to prove the Ruiz fight really was just an isolated incident and not something more indicative of a flaw in his mindset.
It should go some way towards it. It will always be on his record. Although the Fury fanboys will never let it go no matter what Joshua does in the future.
