Yeah, it's a real game changer. It was first practiced by Primo Carnera, a legend in his own right. It's one of those moves that you just can't defend against, and can never see coming.

I can remember an interview with Primo.
In it he says that, if only he'd being able to take a bite out of Baer's ear, that things would have being soooo different.
"Thata Max, I try to get near his ears, you know, to take e nibble.?
But heee not play Thata game!
    So, I loose. '

This is obviously a fake interview because Sugar Primo Carnera never lost a fight. That footage against Baer was a paid actor in vaudeville film.

The rabbit hole goes even deeper than you think. Boxing was invented in 1991 with the Foreman/Holyfield fight. It was ALL paid actors before then.

The building blocks of any fight strategy should center around eating some part of your opponent's face.

    Generally, anyway.

That's why we can still learn so much from watching Louis's fights, IMO. Textbook face-eater; every bite thrown with perfect form.

Not so good at adapting to strangely-shaped faces on the fly, admittedly. But he was like Kobayashi at Nathan's Hotdogs in rematches.

All the great fighters of yesteryear had no noses. There's no substitute for experience.

Carnera still holds the title to this very day at age of 115.

I watched Primo Carnera and Max Baer again recently. The thing is a lot of time in that fight was spent with both men in a heap on the canvas. As we all know strange things happen in those center of ring pileups. Biting of various body parts is not only possible but quite probable in such crashes. I am really not sure who was doing the biting down there or even if anybody was bitten. I can say that Max Baer won that fight. I will just leave it at that. You can draw your own conclusions from there. I know I may or may not have seen pictures after the fight of what appeared to be a half empty salt shaker near the ring apron. Hmmm.
