I don't think the belts themselves matter its just usually by the time someone goes through all the bs to get the belts they've usually beaten the top guys at the division. Plenty of one belt or unified champs where it's disputed they're the top dog whereas I can't think of an instance of undisputed where ppl weren't sure they were the best at the weight. So yeah it's more just the quest for undisputed is so long and tough doing it means you're the g to most.
Cash cows get the work on an easier basis that unknowns don't get. You don't realize that because you've only followed cash cows
You seem to have forgotten that Canelo Alvarez wasn't an Olympian, didn't win any medals and didn't turn pro with a lucrative TV or promotional contract. People weren't fawning over him from the start like they do some of these guys. Canelo turned pro at 15 and fought grown men in every seedy, run-down club in Tijuana and Guadalajara. He didn't turn pro on a big Sky Sports broadcast in a huge arena with his fellow Olympic teammates like Saunders did with Frank Warren's influence and that support behind him. He came up the hard way. If he gets to call the shots now, it's because he earned the right to do so. He also likes to fight, unlike some of these dudes. He'll have three fights this year. No other "name" will. And he probably would've had four, if he and Plant would've fought last weekend as originally intended.
Seem to forget?? Of course I know he wasn't an Olympian. And give me a break, he was put on Cable at 20 and almost immediately given the red carpet treatment. That's what i am talking about.
His first fight after he turned 20 was against former World Welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir in Los Angeles. That was Canelo's 35th pro fight. And Baldomir's 63rd. Like I said, came up the hard way. (Now Canelo has had almost as many fights - 59 - as Baldomir had then.) Clearly, you don't remember. Then again, how could you. He wasn't on TV for years getting hyped by one of the biggest promoters in boxing from his pro debut on. He spent years fighting in obscurity in small halls. I don't begrudge him anything.
He got the fight w/ Baldomir because of who his promoter was and the pressure GBP had for him to make him a star. And it helped he fought a highly beatable former champ from a weight below. That was the goal. WTF is this you don't remember crap?? Who the **** said he got on TV immediately? Who said he had to be an Olympian to begin with? His fighting in small halls was essentially his amateur experience done as a pro. Canelo didn't have to work his way to get his title shots. If so, a fight w/ Baldomir wouldn't have happened. Canelo was fat tracked as a cash cow based on early popularity and the potential they (GBP and HBO) saw.
Once you're recognised as the lineal champ it's irrelevant how many belts you have in fact you could have 0 belts and still be the man, isn't that what Pacquaio did a while back at 140 or 147 ?? Belts nowadays are just props by and large, not saying they have no value whatsoever but as the years have passed they're become increasingly meaningless.
Fast tracked. You think he was fast tracked because you saw him nearly 40 fights into his pro career. I can hear the HBO execs now. 'Listen here, kid, we're going to "fast-track" you. We're going to put you on our patented 37 PRO FIGHTS plan to a title shot. "Now, I know it sounds like a lot, but it will fly by. First, drop out of school before you're old enough to drive. I know that sounds risky, but hear me out. Then we're going to send you to the worst places to fight in Mexico. You'll spend years down there getting head-butted and elbowed by grown men for about $50 or $100 a fight the first couple years and nobody will be able to see your fights. "So, you'll have no education and no money, and you'll be fighting grown men, but hear us out. If you can survive down there - I mean once you win down there - we'll bring up you up and before you're legally allowed to drink, we'll throw you in with former World champion who has 50 or 60 pro fights. "And if you aren't dead by then, I mean, once you have WON OVER EVERYONE with what I'm sure will be an fan-friendly style ... we'll throw you in a with a top contender with 50 or 60 pro fights in eliminator. "If you can beat him and you aren't completely brain damaged by that point ... I mean when you beat him ... then you'll BE READY. "Oh, those guys over there 'actually' getting fast-tracked? Ignore them. I mean I know they all got paid big signing bonuses before their pro debuts, and they get all the national media will cover them, and they'll be fighting in the best arenas from day one ... but you don't want that. "Go down to Mexico, I think I have $50 in my wallet, that's your pay for your first fight, and let us know how everything turns out. Gotta go, kid. I believe in you. Say hello to your mother for me. You got my number. Talk to you in four or five years. Don't lose that number, now." Yep, FAST-TRACKED. Meanwhile, Saunders (and his Olympic teammates DeGale and Gavin) all turned pro on a big Sky Sports card in a big arena THREE YEARS after Canelo turned pro and they're all retired already with fewer fights than Canelo had before he turned 20. But Canelo was 'fast-tracked.' It's going to be one of those days again. I don't think I'm up for it.
Jesus christ.... you have too much time on your hands.. none of this even actually applies to what I said. nice made up quotes... those really bolster your argument...
Unknowns are usually unknown because they can't compete at the highest levels or are avoiding the best. Bivol, Beterbiev, and Kovalev have no excuse why they haven't fought. Saunders, Smith, Andrade, Charlo, Benavidez, Golovkin could have fought each other. You can literally go up and down the divisions and point out many fights that are not made simply on the basis that there is too much risk. Cash cows are usually cash cows because they have proven themselves and willing to fight everyone and take the risks others will not. Tyson, Leonard, De La Hoya, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Canelo... all those guys have in common that they will take on all comers.
You said he was "fast tracked." I was just pointing out how incredibly ludicrous your comment was. Fast-tracked. Everybody looks FAST-TRACKED when you miss the first 36 pro fights of their career that began when they were a minor. Most fast-tracked fighters don't even have 36 fights total ... let alone that many before they get their first shot.
I am talking about when he got on cable FFS... as a 20yo w/ the cable company and GBP already pushing him to stardom. Are you not getting it or are you playing dumb?? good grief....
I think it's impressive to unify the 4 major belts. You gotta watch out for the boxing double speak cuz the media now calls any championship fight with at least 2 belts on the line the unified championship. They don't even say "A" unified champion, they say "THE".
Yes, please **** off and stop wasting both of our time. You simply didn't understand what I was saying, instead you kept trying to tell me "I forgot something," that wasn't even relevant to my point. Go ruin some DW threads now...
