Good shout, but I would hazard a guess that even he was better in his 30s, than he was in his 40s.

Absolutely but not so much in his 20's.

    Incredibly rare case obviously.

Randy Couture in MMA might arguably be the same. Dude was ageless. But he - like Hopkins - fought in an era with PEDs. And even Couture is in some ways the exception that proves the rule, since he fought during the infancy of his sport, where everyone was learning on the job. He could keep pace because there simply wasn't the refined knowledge base for younger guys to quickly learn everything and beat him up.

I think that people praising the technical improvements that old Foreman made, fail to address why he made those changes.

It is not that he was an idiot in his younger days, and he found a better way of doing it as an older wiser man, he simply had no choice.

His old style was simply no longer possible with his dulled reflexes.

I would add that even if the younger Foreman had come to me after Zaire, and asked me to make him more technically proficient, I would not have turned him into a lethargic boxer puncher, trying to set up one big shot.

Surely it would have made much more sense to develop him into a boxer slugger like Julian Jackson, who advanced behind a jab, and created openings to set up finishing flurries.

Prime Foreman was a force of nature. Ali found a way to beat him (but he had Allah on speed dial). Old George couldn't pull the trigger like 70s Foreman. Younger George was quick on his feet, cutting the ring down. He had the same jab as the old man but he didn't depend on it as much because he could knock your brains loose.
Older George did a few things better out of necessity. He had to work his jab consistently and try to lure, bait, time opponents to make a mistake. One other thing that isn't mentioned is Young George Foreman was a physcopath. He was not all there in a bad way. Q

    Prime Foreman was way better.

I guess old George managed to learn some tricks and got wiser over the age so he could compete with younger hws but what did he do exactly? He was too slow, too old to really put up a consistent effort and basically relied on timing people with a proper shot and expecting them to fall over, which is what happened to china chinned Moorer and that's his only really good win in his comeback. He was dangerous and a dark horse but too one dimensional.

Prime George had his own issues, mostly a lackluster defense and trouble pacing himself but that didn't really matter against most guys. Prime George was bigger and stronger than most heavyweights in history, he could even compete with guys like Lewis and Klit when it comes to strength IMO. He could take a punch and was always coming forward with his arms out so his opponent couldn't really get a good shot in. His attack was somewhat sloppy but relentless, you couldn't really keep him off yourself because of his size and he just kept coming with bombs and could take yours....basically gambling but most would lose that gamble.

If we had a time machine and the 92 Foreman fights 73 Foreman, 92 Foreman beats the **** out of his younger self.

he thinks he would beat holy when holy that George did fight outboxed him the best ver of George at a skill level and toughness

why would a way less tougher
    no defense
    wasted punches
    easier to put down
    bad energy
how would this bad ver of George beat the best ver of holy the 90s ver
which some say is the best skilled hw ever next to the best Mike and lennox

holy 90s was way more skilled and tougher to beat then jim who beat George and 90s holy was better then the ali that fought George

people just say stuff here without analyzing with any sort of real logic
oh sense I like a person ill just say dumb unrealistic things

and tom would ko that young George sense he would be able to hit him more and he wasnt that tough to taking strong shots
