A couple hours away from finding out what heavyweight Usyk is really made of.

I'm expecting him to make some big waves, but, if it doesn't work out for him, and if he loses legitimately, it would be refreshing if folks held the excuses. Of course Usyk isn't the same as he was at cruiserweight, that's the whole point of the exercise — he's a heavyweight now, both heavier and older, but nothing like a shot fighter. All boxers face decrements of pure physical ability as they advance in age. Even guys considered to be smack dab in their physical primes can be small measures of speed and reflex behind their greener twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three-year-old selves. Usyk is still well inside the bounds of high-level physical capability, wherein experience and knowledge more than make up for relative losses in athletic capacity.




BTW, the inevitability of that atrocious decision in Hatton-Martinez is the reason why I didn't take up the very generous in-play odds that were still being offered on a Martinez decision during the third round.
