This is the worst PPV I can remember. The fights had serious potential to end early. This is beyond a joke.

Went to the boxrec page displaying Sonni Martinez's record, and noticed I've actually seen him ringside when he was 1-2 back in 2016, at an event in a gym in Elche, Spain. He lost against a good local boxer who made his debut that night. Normally those events would have 8-10 amateur fights followed by one or two professional fights. 12 euro or so for the ticket at the gate, and 200 people packed together.

So, to put things into context, those who go pro in Spain usually have no whatsoever promotional backing, and it is sink or swim from the first fight. Those that manage to win 4-5 fights without a loss could attract a promoter's attention, and the initial goal for most of these fighters would be to fight for the Spanish title (requires 7 fights and a positive record, e.g. 3-2-2). Winning the Spanish title ofte gives you the chance to fight for the EU EBU title, that will get you nicely ranked on the EBU list, and eventually a chance to fight for the EBU title. It's a poor man's chance to make a career and eventually earn a good bag, most likely as a journeyman brought in on a big event in the UK or the US. A couple of losses among a handful of fights may not tell anything really about the fighter's true potential.

There's lots of talent there that never gets past that first stage, and who only gets a few fights before the pro boxing career is over. Probably Martinez works as a skilled or unskilled worker, an immigrant from Uruguay, who has done a bit of boxing in his younger days and nowadays is just boxing to stay fit and have a bit of fun. A pity they robbed him. Hopefully he is brought back as a journeyman again, but I doubt it, as he didn't follow the script and humiliated young Hatton.

OK, now I hope all the negatives about tonight are over. A bit of therapy to write them out.

• A scandalous Hatton decision
• A dull Marku bout
• Typical Sky mediocre, bland production, with adverts everywhere even between rounds. Anyone who prefers this to DAZN needs their head examined, imho. Come on DAZN, make sure I never have to watch this again.

ALL THAT SAID… I am absolutely buzzing for this main event. Biggest British fight in years, and a seriously tough match for Joshua. I'm predicting a rollercoaster, but my bet is Joshua to win by stoppage in the 11th.
