He sent a man into a coma and retirement in his second to last outing and then took a beating himself at the hands of a bear-man hybrid. Its not hard to put the dots together and see that both these things clearly took thier toll on him mentally.

He has a family and didn't want to end up with parkinsons or worse.

No. He didn't retire early. He retired right on time with his money, mind and body in tact.

Gvozdzyk was one of the most intelligent men we've seen in boxing.

He lost to Beterbiev and he knew that he cant be the best, time wasnt on his side and he definitely made enough to live a comfortable life.

I tend to agree. Only Gvozdyk knows the right time and if he was setup for life, why risk long term health damage?

He achieved a lot in his career, going to the 2012 Olympics in a team with Usyk and Loma, and winning bronze. He was fantastic throughout his pro career, but what he did to Stevenson would not have been easy to overcome mentally. Then he fought well but still got beaten down by Beterbiev, who is possibly the only other serious P4P threat to Usyk, Loma, and Bud (if Bud decides to fight some live bodies).

Most boxers go on too long, but logically it would be better to go slightly too short.

I’m not sure what his net worth is, but he is educated and claimed to have found a good source of income outside of boxing.

This. Also the fact that he’s been boxing basically his entire life up until the Beterbiev fight. So what he’s been boxing like 22 years, not exactly something light

I am a big Gvozdyk fan, and at the time I hated that he retired, but I don’t like to ever criticize someone from retiring from boxing too early. There are just so many fighters who fought on too long and ended up with major health problems.

If the man didn't want to fight anymore, then it was the right time to retire.

    Simple.

He has an estimated worth of around five million.

Earned one and a half million plus for Beterbiev and a little over seven hundred fifty thousand for Stevenson. Those are just two fights. He never supported an entourage and I'm sure Teddy Atlas kept some of the worse elements away from both him and his money.

He could have fought on, won some more fights. As a fan of his, I would have liked to see that, I thought he was clearly the next best after Beterbiev but you can't criticise him for calling it quits. If your hearts not in it anymore and you are already thinking of retirement, you may aswell hang them up.

He made in his mind the right choice for hisself and his family. He accomplished a lot in his career and left with his health in tact.

    Kudos to him.

Yes imo but ultimately it was up to him only he knows his body. Maybe he thought he had nothing left to give. Skilled guy who I was a fan of.
