    *cracks fingers*

'Big" Toney from the Vander fight is the one we are using and If he survived Peters shots for and Rahmans he is surviving Foremans- Big part of that is those looping punches aren't scoring a touch down he is gonna have a bloody nose and a hurt ego if he tries any of that windmill sh1t against "Big" James.

When has Foreman in the 70s ever showed he had stamina for the most part of the Young fight he was ready to be taken. Finished, For Lyle they both blew there load in a few rounds throwing awful hail Mary punches. I don't think it will help THAT much. I do think the conditions for Young were very humid however? But my point stands his stamina ain't great.

Parelta couldn't do anything with Foreman but make him look like an oaf he didn't have the power- inside skills or chin to survive, James has the craftiness and chin to actually make the difference. Speaking of while he won't be wrestling with Ali he will be missing BIG with his onslaught of haymakers. Missing is the most draining thing in boxing.

Post Zaire "Basket" Foreman had Gil Clancy and was In excellent shape. Things did go on yes there are things to discuss on the conditions of the fight and leading up to it but really he got beat up and humiliated by Young with very few moments of success and failed miserably trying to close the show on Jimmy who was simply a better fighter.

Foreman hitting hard is obvious but really he didn't look any more or less devastating then most HW punchers in history he loaded up behind his head... he isn't gonna be the guy to crack Toneys combination of Iron chins or wizard defence. Playing rough? I see a fighter with no proper defence who eats straight punches like breakfast and fouls constantly while owning the widest punches in the game.

He got better at timing shots. He liked mixing up short and wide shots to great effect and stepped into hooks to cut guys off but they were just gimmicks and he could have conserved a lot more energy with actual boxing and attention to detail. In my reality he is predictable had a suspect pair of lungs and was vulnerable to a lot of what Undestructable Toney has to offer.

The only problem is that Peter beat Toney behind a jab in the rematch. If Foreman actually went with that strategy, he might win.

Of that group, he might beat the Cinderella man, he might not.

He would not worry any of the rest.

I agree his stamina ain't great. But I don't think it's quite as bad as the Ali fight indicates, either.

I think Foreman was a better, and harder, puncher than either Peter or Rahman. He hurt his opponents more easily than either of the latter guys, and was better at forcing them into a shell.

Toney wasn't exactly a powerhouse either. He did stop (old) Evander via accumulation to the body, which isn't nothing, but Fat Toney's overhand rights just bounced off genuine heavyweights. I don't think Fat Toney lost much power compared to Big Toney.

Foreman isn't going to be missing all the time. Toney's body can be guarded, but it's not able to bob and weave like Toney's head. Big Toney was still a relatively stationary guy, and even Ali, despite his ability to evade shots, had to sacrifice his body to George for most of the fight. Foreman is going to connect, IMO.

Granted that Foreman's dodgy mental state post Zaire is not some be-all, end-all argument in his favor. I've always thought it was overplayed. But I think we both agree that it's also *there*, and should be taken into account.

Young was the better man that night than Foreman, but then, Young was also a flat-out better heavyweight than Toney, too. If Young had received the kinds of championship nods that Ali enjoyed, he would have been champ until Holmes took it from him, with all three of the late 70s Golden Boys on his record.

What Foreman did to people worked. Foreman was good enough at cutting off the ring, jabbing, etc. that he forced much prettier boxers to stand and fight his stupid rock-em-sock-em robots fight.

You are correct that he fouled. And -- this is key -- he got away with it. Refs also tolerated punching Toney to the back of his head to some degree (e.g., Peter fight) because of the way he ducked. Foreman's unsportsmanlike conduct, pushing Toney off balance to set up shots, hitting behind the head, etc. is just something that Toney will have to deal with. As all of Foreman's other opponents had to deal with it.

Also, if DQs start getting thrown around, it's more likely that Toney fails a drug test as he did after Ruiz.

He hurt smaller chinnier guys in the 70s yes he did.

Toney does not need power. He just needs his Godly chin amazing reflexes and stamina. He can outlast Foreman by keeping himself weaving and countering with how off balance Foreman is I can see James dropping him honestly. I remember for the most part Ali riding with a lot of shots- But body shots are a fair card I consider a mark on Foremans board but I see James catching and rolling through a lot of Deontay Foremans 3 second hooks....

Young was not the defensive fighter Toney was nor as durable too. That must be considered as these are the cards Ali and Young had to play for the W. Who did he cut the ring against that had such great footwork? I didn't see it against Young. Just foot in the bucket Norton, Frazier, and Ali who arguably wanted to go to the ropes I think he tested the waters in round one saw an oppurtunity and took it with Peralta in his mind.

All that fouling like extending his arms is gonna leave him with a bloody nose whenever he goes for a shuv IMO. And rabbit punching is a fair call James kind of did it to himself at times. Yeah Big James would lose via DQ after he stops Lil 4man.

Schmeling wasn't hurt or in trouble in first Sharkey fight. Saying that he "goit bailed out by low blows" in 4th round of 15 rounder is simply inaccurate. Max is the kind of fighter who gets better as the fight went on.

The only thing I have to ask about Schmeling knocking out Toney is with what object will he accomplish that with?

I think there are a lot - a lot - of heavies who would stop Toney. That Samuel Peter was unable to prod him into unconsciousness doesn't wash much laundry with me.

No, he wasn't. He clearly was losing the 4th round, but the first two rounds were even. Sharkey won the third round, but Schmeling wasn't hurt in the 4th. Max was a durable fighter, it's far from given that Sharkey would stop him. Max had also better stamina than Jack.

Weird post to die on. Sharkey beat Schmeling later, but not as badly as Steve Hamas and Gipsy Daniels beat Schmeling.

Sure, 200lb Max Schmeling isn't one of them.
