I have been saying this for long time ago, how inaccurate or maybe easy to cheat(paid) the Compubox is. Somehow the total punches landed was 148 for Usyk and 123 for Joshua. Something i have very hard time to believe. The landed jabs were 52 - 52. But what really make it ridiculous is this: 1round - 0 jabs landed by Usyk, you kidding me ? There was a plenty landed. How broken/corrupt this thing is ? 2 round - 3 jabs 3 round - 2 jabs 4 round - 4 jabs Following compubox Joshua somehow landed more jabs than Usyk in the first 4 round, which is 100% not true. And somehow Joshua landed 18 to 13 punches in the Round 10, which is another ridiculous stats ... Just look the whole punch stats, and how ridiculous it is. You stupids still don't understand Compubox. Compubox is based on live stream. Compubox operators don't watch fights again and again and slow motion.
Yeah I questioned them as well. I don't hate CompuBox but I hate that most people take it as a factual representation of a fight when it plainly isn't. Most people here know that it's just two people watching the fight live and pressing buttons, but many seem to think they have some sort of advanced AI watching the fight or tracking contact electronically, or at the least overestimate the accuracy of the system. Oftentimes they will mistake a slipped, blocked or parried punch as landing, count non-scoring punches, or mistake landed punches as missing, and I think these were all apparent in this fight.
Totally agree. The system is highly flawed and should not be taken seriously at all. This fight once again show how inaccurate the system is. Not to mention you can always have a hand in it, to make a certain result appear let's say it differently.
Those numbers don't surprise me at all, as I was saying in the Usyk vs Bowe thread the jab has evolved beyond simply landing jabs. Usyk's jab is levels above Joshua's even if they really did land a similar amount, because Joshua is trying to land a jab to score, Usyk most of the time when using his lead hand isn't even trying to connect. He's instead throwing jabs short, in to space, or hitting his opponents glove on purpose because he's trying to control his opponent lead hand position instead to create openings to land his straight left. Most of the time he lands his straight left he's feinted making Joshua jab or move his lead hand opening himself up to be caught by Usyk's rear hand. Watch the first straight left Usyk lands in rd1, he's throws a short jab, Joshua tries to parry, throwing a weak left, Usyk steps outside his weak lead hand and smacks him in the face with a left hand. This pattern is repeated throughout the fight, sometimes Usyk step outside, some times he steps inside the lead hand, some times he feints with a short jab, other times he punches into space to make Joshua move his lead hand. The jab has evolved beyond simply landing to connect. Mayweather is another fighter who has abandoned the traditional jab, he jabbed conventionally early in his career, then commentary teams later would ask why isn't he jabbing more, well because he's no longer trying to out jab his opponent, he's instead using his lead hand to create traps for his right hand and also taking away his opponents own jab so they can't gauge distance on him which for a defensive fighter makes him so much harder to hit. Usyk does the same he took away Joshua jab only allowing him to land a measly 52 jabs or about 4 jabs per rd and so Joshua never really hand Usyk's range figured out.
If you can bribe a judge, you can bribe a guy pressing a button when he "thinks" a punch landed. That's all it is. The infographic of compubox is often trotted out after a close fight, so it's a worthwhile bribe for propaganda purposes. Clearly what happened here.
I see your point, but compubox has zero impact on the outcome of the fight. Need to do something about bad judging first.
Usyk used a lot of check right hooks to control the range instead of jabs and, at certain points, he let Joshua had his jab going as long as he remained in the position to avoid the right hand. So those numbers don't surprise me.
I know Usyk do this, and not only him, but there is a no way he landed so little jabs. If i start making a count by watching the match, it will be triple or quadruple for damn sure. This was not the point at all tho.
The trouble is with the name, they chose it to suggest an objective computer based method, but it's completely at the whims of human error and open to bias/manipulation. Might as well just have a bloke with a clicker in one hand and a pint in the other, the level of accuracy they often achieve. The name is pure obfuscation.
It has a strong impact of post fight narratives though that swirl around the common consciousness as fans use it to justify robberies etc. and start churning out online content referencing it to the casual market. See Wilder v Fury 1
