Douglas was number 7 in the Ring's ratings when Tucker beat him ,care to point out when Gregg was ever ranked?

 

I actually think Spinks team were planning what happened all along. If Spinks had being offered an absolutely awesome amount, they still vacate. Knowing that getting past Cooney is hitting the jackpot.
Let's face it, Spinks never had to fight again so cracking job done.

 

Of course Tucker turned out to be good enough to beat Douglas. But nobody knew that Douglas was going to go on to beat Tyson, or that Tucker would be good enough to last 12 rounds with Tyson.

When he was offered to Spinks as a challenger, Tucker was entirely unproven.

 

Belive it or not, some say that about George Foreman before he faced Frazier!

 

Well, that's what you think, and it could be so.

But what we know is that Tucker wasn't in any way an outstanding challenger and that Spinks was offered a relative pittance to face him. Not saying Cooney and Tangstad were great challengers, mind you.

 

Cooney was a great opportunity to make a lot of money. Can't fault someone doing that, very canny. But years down the line when such as our self, look at the story's behind the men fighting, it can take the shine off em a bit.
Not just Spinks by a long shot id say.

And number 8 Douglas, prior to Spinks fighting Cooney.
