Holyfield lost to Bowe, didn’t stop him being an elite heavyweight. Styles make fights. Usyk a better heavyweight than I thought but do think AJ showed him too much respect and too much respect for boxing by not fighting rough.
Even if he packed in today Joshua's career is on another level. Casuals mistake Bruno's popularity and media profile with ring achievement.
Yes all 70,000 who watched him at the stadium and the rematch is an even bigger fight more lucrative that will fill out the bigger Wembley. 2 Olympic Gold medalist’s from the same London 2012 Olympics squaring off again. Yeah small fight right. AJ has captured the public’s imagination a long time ago, a credit to his countries and people. Been in exciting fights and will be again. Everyone wants to fight him because he guarantees the biggest paydays.
He’s not got that fight in him. The end of the 12th was embarrassing really, ringing the bell about 10secs early for a start and then Joshua not even raising his arms but looking like a toddler who’s been sprayed with a water pistol in the eye. It wasn’t this; This content is protected
Not really, his bubble has burst now and is one more loss away from becoming branded useless by his casual fans.
Joshua needs to punch first and ask questions later. At the moment he is overthinking everything and comes across as if he is on a journey of self discovery, weird guy but good luck to him and I hope he gets there. This is why Fury is so dangerous he has ultimate faith and self belief in his boxing ability. When all is said and done he still wipes the floor with 95% of the division.
I've said before he's very good. World class but not an ATG unless he suddenly goes on a run and clears the division out. His weaknesses have been there for a while - He doesn't like speed, his stamina is unreliable and he's a bit chinny for such a big lad. He's cought between styles now, he's trying to become Lennox Lewis dictate with the jab and keep foes honest then hammer them with a big right hand while controlling the pace. Except that doesn't play to his strengths. Joshua is at his best on the front foot, throwing short hard combinations and building in some reset time. His jab isn't dominate enough to use it as his sole weapon he needs something else - and he isn't as huge a puncher shot for shot as his record might indicate. He hits very hard but he's never banged out top contenders like Lewis did with Ruddock and Rahman. This is something i only realised in the build up to fight week. Yeah 22 KO's or what ever it is, that's good but how many rounds have people taken him. He's caught between styles now and I wonder if he's a bit gunshy. Against Usyk i was expecting more physicality, more combinations - Did he throw a left hook? He just seemed tentative about what was coming back and he got hit clean and often.
He will he branded a bum soon by the naysayers, when he loses again. That’s boxing. Tomorrow’s chip paper and all that.
NO Brain NO Chin NO Heart best win is a labouring pts win over Prime Joe Parker Rest of resume is STACKED FULL of tier two fodder (Breazeale, Takam, Pulev, Martin, Molina level garbage) Went life and death with a shot to pieces retired old VLAD who hadn't won for 2 years and never fought again Schooled and nearly stopped by a feather fisted midget cruiserweight in BRUTHA USKY He will be remembered for his greatness outside of the ring - marketing prowess, sweet caroline, sold out stadia - but his in ring resume has already aged horrendously in a few years, will be remembered for QUITTING against a tubby mexican and failing to fight Fury/Wilder. Real talk.
Now now, no need to be like that fella!! People are entitled to their opinions don't you know!! The biggest idiot would be AJ going straight back in with the guy who whooped his behind so convincingly!! Get over it sir...
So glad it did go early. I could see Rob throwing the towel in, and it glancing off AJs chin putting him out for a week!!
