Nothing much too add. Perhaps that I like that he is at least honest about wanting nothing to do with Jones or Toney. On the other hand, it's too bad that he didn't fancy the biggest challenges, because I think he'd be a handful for anybody. He was happy to be a big fish in small pond, but at least is honest about it, to summarise.
You know I like his footwork. The older I get the more I appreciate his use of angles and lateral movement.
Eubank had a gracefulness about his movement that other fighters didn’t have. Beautiful to see a fighter actually glide around the ring.
Strangely he called out Toney and Nunn a few times at the start of 93, saying he wanted to prove himself the best of the best. He didn’t like what Don King proposed though later in the year. And Arum had already point blank refused Eubank.
The SKY deal was two fingers up at the boxing business as he wanted to get out unbeaten, rich and faculties intact to **** them off.
In Jan 93 ‘I believe I am now ready to face Michael Nunn and James Toney and prove myself the number one out of the top three’ In June 94 ‘I want to be the first one to look back and say I beat the system’
I never really took to Eubank when he was an active fighter. I preferred Benn by a mile. But now, upon reflection, I think he's pretty cool, both as a man and fighter.
He was smart because he realized in order to get played in a big way he had to self prompt. And he was a genius when it came to doing that. It got to the point that people who hated him wanted him to lose so bad they would pay just for the chance to see it. My dream pre fight conferences would be Eubank vs Mayorga and Eubank vs Mayweather. Can you imagine the clash of personalities?
