There is now only one boxer between Benn and Avanesyan on the EBU rankings, and as Weiss declined to fight Avanesyan so that Taylor could get his shot, Benn might be the next to be called out as mandatory for Avanesyan. If Benn ducks Avanesyan, he should stop talking about fighting Broner and other fighters with a name way beyond their prime. Hearn forced Kelly to face Avanesyan, to see what he was made of. He won't do the same with Benn, but it will hurt Benns hype if he becomes the mandatory and ducks Avanesyan.

And yes, Benn was at the Kelly - Avanesyan fight, as part of a hyped up showdown between Kelly and Benn in a big domestic Matchroom event later this year or in 2022, but when Avanesyan won, Benn instead went to the Avanesyan's changing room after the fight, congratulating and hugging him with the cameras right behind him. He had seen enough to know that if Ava could stop Kelly, he could stop him too.

 

I think of the current world champions at the weight, his best chance is against Ugas like yourself, I still wouldn’t consider him
favourite, but stylistically it’s his best chance. A lot of people get carried away with the hype train, Avanesyan is not beating Spence or Crawford, too skilled and hit hard much harder than his recent opposition. He goes in reckless against those guys he’s beaten up brutally, stopped and wrecked.

Ennis in particular I really do not fancy his chances against.

Let’s not forget before Kelly did what Kelly does and find away to loose and get mentally and physically tired, he was on top in that fight and looking very good. If anyone thinks that boxers like Crawford, Spence, Ugas, Ennis, are going to fade that dramatically when they on top, they are living in a different world.

If Avenesyan was at a different weight he would be a banker to win a world title, unfortunately he’s in a red hot division and he would have to have another career best performance to win a world title at that weight.

Benn hasn't won a British, Commonwealth, European or World Title yet feels quite comfortable telling others to go and do what he hasn't for the honour of stepping in the ring with him.

And that's exactly why this whole "Avenasyan deserves the Benn fight" winds me up so much.

It should be the other way round.

If Avanesyan doesn't get a world title shot then All I think is Avanesyan deserves a "high profile" fight and the good money.. and fighting Benn would be a good payday and have plenty of eyes on it.

 

Yeah, but priorities. Sky needed to use the airtime to push guppy-faced Ebonie Jones down the throats of fight fans who have little to no interest in the miserable spectacle of womens' boxing. Quota, you see.
