You can’t record live TV or pause the programme you are watching with this product. There are quite a few extras added to the price. Overall it’s not the worst idea but it’s a shame Sky don’t just launch a standalone smart Sky Q like box that works over the internet.

My worry with this is that if you enter into a contract with Sky to effectively buy the TV in monthly instalments it will take four years to pay off the balance- four years is an awful long time to commit to anything technology related. Plus I’m not sure what would happen if there was a dispute over carriage of channels- for example if DAZN fell out with Sky and pulled their portal from the platform as it stands you wouldn’t be able to watch DAZN without buying a Fire Stick or similar. Which kind of defeats the whole point of the exercise.

Was checking it out today mate - the only negatives to this TV I see is that there is no record function (there is catch up), the streams will have a delay and 8K TVs are out already so there may be Sky Glass 2 appearing in the not too distant future.

The stream delay is the most important as Eh Day's streaming DAZN is always 40-60 secs behind the live action.

Would like to know what the delay was before I purchased but I don't think new customers will get the choice of a Satellite Dish 1 year from now. It is the beginning of the end for the Satellite Dish except for maybe rural areas where a decent speed broadband has not been rolled out.

Even with the limitations, you have a built in Sky Q box functionality, an integrated surround sound system including woofer, no need for a dish and only one power wire to the wall.

Looks a cracking product for the price and people are getting an interest free loan payable over 2 or 4 years.

I am seriously considering buying one.

What sort of price do people pay for Sky these days, with Sports etc?

The last thing I had was Virgin and had the internet plus pretty much all of the channels, which was about £75 per month. It wasn't worth it to me because I watched it maybe thrice per month.

You're off your head paying that much a month. Thought you were smarter than that!

To be fair I believe you can also swap the TV after 2 years also. Not sure how it will work but they have planned hardware upgrades in across there timelines.

I’ve been paying something like £40 a month for NowTV for the shows and sports, but if I can get a new telly for only £20/£30 extra I’m all over it.

I just got mine delivered this morning.

Went for the 65 inch dusky pink version.

The only trouble is, when I tried to install the DAZN app, a picture of Adam Smith wagging his finger fills the screen and I can't get rid of it.

Most people I know get more than all that for less than one month's Sky sub including Box Office and porn. I must be a sub mug.

I don't mind paying as the UHD and HD live pictures are better than receiving texts from Evertonians every time Liverpool concede a goal before I see it. Most of these people send texts etc immediately they see the goal which is up to 1 min after it happens.

As long as there is value, I pay.

I never buy Box Office on principle it is wrong to charge existing subscribers more and currently don't subscribe to DAZN as it is not worth £7.99 per month with the current offering by Eh Day.

Streaming's definitely the future. In the same way Netflix has turned Blu Ray 4K into a niche product, streaming will eventually take over broadcasting.

This Sky device is very clever. Take Sky away from being a removable accessory, and turn it into the TV itself - make anything else attached (especially Virgin Media) feel third rate. And of course, drip feed it into a house for 'free' and find another reason to add a few quid to the monthly sub.

Personal view, as a power user who has been on the streaming bandwagon for years? Hate it. I want the streaming revolution to bring lower prices and device portability, not tethering it to the existing overpriced monolith and integrating it into a 55" TV. Difficult to imagine this won't sell like hot cakes though, despite the drawbacks.

And then Sky can continue to charge licencing fees for other apps to go on their platform… Netflix, DAZN, Prime Video. Sky are trying to become the Apple of the European living room.

8k tvs are nothing but vanity projects right now. There is no actual 8k content and remember even 4k content that comes from netflix, sky, amazon etc isn't true 4k.

Its more 1080p upscaled as the bitrate is too low to produce true 4k.

This is why 4k blue ray dvd players are still the best way to watch movies as they are far superior in quality compared to 4k streaming.

I stream 4k content from an emby server and unlike netflix where you are required to have a 25Mb/s rated connection I can't stream 4k without having 60mb/s minimum and even then it would struggle sometimes as the bitrate is much higher.

I remember 3D was all the rage and watching the football and boxing on it was like being on the pitch/in the ring - it was great.

High production costs and 3D disappeared as quick as it arrived leaving people with 3D TVs and no content - after that experience it was a new 4K TV and a promise never to be sucked in again.

Yeah the industry for 20 years was trying to force people into 3D but 3D would and will never become popular as long as you need to wear glasses. People don't want to wear glasses for hours.
