He seems to have made a hard work of the fight than it should have been. So much smothering of his work inside the pocket, lack of head-movement, letting Wilder back into the fight, lack of feints (even the double-feint). Fury very well may have lost the fight had he fought Joshua or Usyk in the place of Wilder with a performance like that -- he wasn't boxing to instruction, or perhaps there was an issue in camp. Joshua's most likely frustrated that he didn't take the Fury fight in that case. I do hope this is a wakeup call, similar to what happened in the Wallin fight. It remains to be seen if Fury will be the same after taking shots like that ~
I don’t think he was in as good shape as he could have been and has been inactive. That being said there were elements of great boxing from him so it’s not his worst performance. Wilder deserves credit for his part in this.
Perhaps in a boxing sense. But what a great fight that was. It was up there with Dempsey Firpo. This will be talked about 100 years from now.
I mean Wilder clearly won the first round with a superb gameplan that had the King looking momentarily baffled. I would say that Fury "messed" him out of that plan imposing size and will in a way that was conducive to victory. Fury fought a smarter gamplan in the first fight, scored a draw and was knocked down much more heavily. So, nah.
Could've easily ended that in 4 rounds or less if he wasn't so sloppy. He had a dead man in front of him for half the fight who only had one weapon in their armory - a big telegraphed right hand.
Wilder is his own worst enemy. His team put together a great gameplan, we saw how effective he could be in that first round, those jabs to the body were working and looking great, but unfortunately his stamina was already depleted, he came into the ring too exhausted to keep up the work rate that he showed in that first round. By round 2 he had already abandoned the jabs to the body and he was already on unsteady legs. He hung in there and took an incredible amount of punishment, but Wilder is capable of much more. It was disappointing to see him walk into the ring visibly gassed and exhausted before the fight even starts. This happened two fights in a row. Dude's face was swole up during ring intros before he ever threw a punch. The moment I heard he was doing another elaborate entrance costume I had a feeling he would be exhausted again, but maybe not quite to the extent he was in the 2nd fight. The difference here was that before the ring walk, reports were that he was not happy with any of the gloves that he was given, and he decided to change his gloves at the last minute. It's sad, Wilder is a great talent, but he can't get out of his own way.
Furys camp didn't go as well as he made people believe His wife had a kid that he missed training for He had covid Wilder fought a better fight this time
I was concerned for this fight in that I knew Wilder would get more joy. That's because I know Tyson Fury is someone who needs to be a little bit concerned about what's in front of him. He needs to feel he's up against it a little and has a huge challenge in order to perform near his best and everything just seemed like, yeah he knows it's Wilder and he'll have to be decent to win. But he already knew subconsciously that if he's near his best there's only one winner. That's dangerous for him. He's the only man who can beat himself. That coupled with the tough spell 7 weeks out with his little girl being seriously ill and the impression you could have gotten, that he hadn't actually trained as hard as he probably can/should. Studying his career I've come to understand that "I train all year, I don't need a 12 week camp" etc basically means "Yeah I haven't trained that hard, but I won't tell the camera" with Tyson Fury. But, despite all of that...I learned long ago never to doubt Tyson Fury. As he said himself. Credit to Wilder as a fighter, he went away and improved himself massively. He has shown in 2 fights now that he is extremely chinny and has the heart (in fighting terms) of a champion and a great man. Ultimately, he is comparatively a small person mentally and has absolutely no class. The Gypsy King is THE man. One of the absolute greatest
This is the best Fury ever been, reason he didn’t “look” as dominant as in the second fight is because Wilder came to win and refused to give up. This was a very tough fight for both and they both need credit. Congrats to Fury, he’s the king as of now.
