Not a bad performance at all. He won yet again against a huge puncher who has now had three goes at beating him and not come close in any of the fights. If he did look lacklustre in this fight he was probably sick of the sight of Wilder.
Anyone just think the gameplan was one that would inevitably look sloppy? The point was probably to rush Wilder. Make it dirty. Sugarhill might've made it a point to clinch more, both to be on the safe side and to force his weight against Wilder. Not to mention the clinches set up his most of his infighting work. Part of me also feels they were gunning for an emphatic KO (which could often mean sacrificing some finesse). And hey, they got it.
Yeah, bad performance overall. Let's not mistake heart and balls with performance and skills. tactics and mindset.
Well that's to be expected against a guy who everyone is saying is the biggest puncher in boxing history. Fury took his best then came back to knock him out, so how about giving Fury some credit?
Every time Wilder caught Fury with a good shot Fury would immediately start feinting, moving his head, and half stepping and started catching Wilder without much effort. Then he would slowly stop doing all of that before eventually getting caught some more. Furys focus in this fight seemed very poor at times.
Of course, fury is the deserved number one at the game right now. However, I do have issue with the statement that wilder never came close becajse he definetely did.
I though he looked out of shape. He’s had a good game plan, but didn’t execute it to perfection. He was missing the feints he had in the 2nd fight. He got overly aggressive after the KD and almost got laid out. This is not the worst version of Fury, but it’s far from the best version. He need to lose at least 10 lbs and focus in the fight a bit more.
Fury was out of shape and clearly unmotivated during camp. He already believe he defeated Wilder twice and was probably gutted about Joshua losing. Losing millions. Over confident and undertrained. Still he has a fighter’s heart and it saw him through the rough patch and he did what he had to do.
In some ways Fury showed tonight that he is, on current form, unbeatable. Even on a bad day, after getting knocked down twice he still wins comfortably and emphatically. He's a level above everyone else in the division.
