Was thinking is Tyson Fury stylewise the most complete heavyweight ever ? Against Wilder: Fight 1 - Boxed Wilders ears of on outside. Then when he himself was nearly stopped he finished fight with ferocious front foot boxing. Fight 2: Fought fight on front foot with educated pressure and smashed Wilder to pieces until towel came in. FIGHT 3: Changed tactics again to a front foot brawler, and fought into Wilders strength on purpose and had an 11 tound shootout with the biggest puncher in history, ending with him knocking Wilder out face first.
Fury is a special fighter He knows boxing inside out. Hes a master of the mental warfare of how you break a man down. Inside work, leaning on him, The way he was holding putting his weight on him. He knew how to zap wilders energy. Used his weight to weigh down , slow down, and smother Wilder.
Absolutely agree. He had a crap build up to the fight, but got the job done. Told Wilder each time how he would go about winning. Its almost like he sets himself a challenge of what style he shouod use, to make it interesting. He 'beat' Wilder 3 times, using a different style each time.
I hate these shouts lately about Fury. See loads saying he’s the best British ever and then others saying he’s just simply the best ever. He’s not. He’s very good, the best of a generation but I’m not having him above Lennox never mind some of the great Americans.
Would have loved to have seen Fury in against a prime Vitali Klitschko - that fight would have answered the question.
I'd potentially rate him above Lennox, but then I was never as convinced by Lennox as some others are. Fury's ability to pick himself up off the deck and come back strong is something I can't imagine Lennox doing in similar circumstances. Lennox has the edge on him in terms of resume, of course, but a couple more big wins or a dominant win over an undefeated Usyk, for example, could reverse that.
If he can beat the winner of AJ - Usyk 2 in a convincing fashion and perhaps a couple of other meaningful wins against someone like Joyce or Hrgovic then we can start talking seriously about his place in his history but as of now too many unanswered questions especially around quality of opponent and lack of title defences - still only has one and he's 33 years old
The real question is whether Fury can be better in his next fight, or whether he's on the decline already. Last night was quite gruelling and might have taken a fair bit out of him. Ultimately, I think Fury's legacy will suffer from missing those years after he dethroned Wlad. And compounded by the whole covid and court stuff over the last 18 months, has left him out of action too much. Which is mostly his own fault, even if you take a sympathetic view. This is what legacies sometimes rest on.
I did notice that @Mitch87 has not updated Fury's CV to include a World Heavyweight Title Defence after banging on about it for months.
If he retired tomorrow, he would retire a British Boxing Legend with one hell of a legacy including his comeback from obesity.
Definitely. Even if he loses his next 10 fights his legacy is cemented but to go down as a great i would personally like him to beat Usyk, Joshua, Whyte and then he’s truly cleared out the division and unified on the way too.
Hope he faces all three before he finishes but I think Whyte would be a very soft defence for him. The Usyk fight could be his most difficult in his career and he does risk being knocked over if he takes Joshua lightly.
