Haha, he’s conspicuous by his absence. So is old grumpy @bandeedo who’s not posted since Usyk beat Joshua. He can dish it out, in patronising and argumentative fashion, but doesn’t come on here when he gets it wrong.

Nah you're being way too harsh on the effort of both and to say AJ looked better than either in his last fight is laughable. AJ was getting rocked about while having **** all bottle to stay in the fight or try to claw back a win against the odds. This seems like an attempt at being a bit of a hipster elitist about the result.

I'm not overlooking their 'effort', just not harping on about it like it's the be-all end-all consideration.

Effort without skill we could see (and did) in Toughman contests in the 90's.

Fury had his lapse in the fourth but overall he was pretty good in this fight. To say it was an unskilled performance is silly. He wasn't trying for the super slick boxing, so don't judge it by that standard. He can do that inside mauling too as we've seen a good few times to date.

Nah , Fury Wilder was infinitely more entertaining than Usyk Joshua.

Usyk Joshua was no more entertaining than Usyk Gassiev. There was obviously far more skill on display for a purist to admire , but this is an entertainment business at the end of the day , and Fury Wilder won in that regard by a landslide.

Well it isn't just Furys word though is it. Fury is widely regarded as lineal champion after beating Wilder because they were widely regarded as the top two.

Obviously its a subjective sport and people won't always agree, but in this case I think they were right.

Money talks. Helenius may have to wait until retirement age if there's more money on the table in a Usyk - Joshua trilogy. We saw the same happened with Pulev. However, the decision would have to be close or controversial to demand a third AJ-Usyk fight.

So you're most entertained by sloppy brawls with lots of laying on each other and breathing heavily, with fat rolls & muscle getting all rubbed and smushed together, with the overwhelming majority of punches from both fighters being wild slaps that don't land cleanly despite both altogether eschewing defense for long periods? Cool. We don't have the same definition of entertaining, then.

It wasn't boring or anything, but even while it was happening no part of me was like "OMG this is some amazing benchmark of HW boxing!". It was definitely the best HW fight since Helenius vs. Kownacki II, I'll give it that much. :sisi1

I just watched the fight for the first time in its entirety. A few takeaways:
Fury very effectively nullified Wilder's power by having his hands up or arms extended, not allowing Wilder to often get in clean shots.
Fury very effectively laid his body on Wilder at every opportunity, wearing Wilder out.
Wilder was headhunting and telegraphing his big right hand, over and over again.
This was not a sophisticated fight. More brawn and bombs than clean exchanges.
I think Wilder was more tired than hurt. He never got drilled with a straight, hard shot. Fury landed several solid shots but nothing that really rocked Wilder.
Wilder has more power than Fury but Wilder's skills are primitive.
Very good fight with both fighters showing a lot of will and determination but I don't think it is at the level of Bowe and Holyfield.

Fury looked rusty and overweight last night, he's better as underdog than as favourite but now he's got 1 title defence on his resume. Ideally he uses Whyte early next year as a tune-up for Usyk or Joshua late next year, we'll see if the promoters let that happen. Wasn't pretty and made it harder on himself but he got the job done in the end.

Wilder's enormous heart ensured he took a lot of punishment last night, he'll probably take some time off and drop down to a more comfortable weight. He should rebuild through easy KO wins against bums, build up his confidence before taking a final payday against Joshua; Wilder's turning 36 soon and will need to cash out sooner rather than later.

    @Tim Witherspoon knows his ****. :sisi1

Everything here was spot on, and I'm not just saying that because he posts here now. I'm pleased to see he's echoing all my sentiments about the fight, and on neither Malik Scott nor Sugar Hill being really great coaches when it comes to imparting pure boxing skill or equipping their fighters to remain composed and relaxed in the heat of battle. :deal:

Im entertained by knowing that either guy could end the other in any minute of any round of the contest and I was enthralled by the guts , bravery and fighting spirit both men displayed in abundance. I enjoy inside work so I liked seeing Fury's short hooks and uppercuts to Wilders head and body. . This fight was so riveting the impact has reverberated throughout the mainstream.
@reznick was there live and said he witnessed greatness.. It was one of the best fights of the last 30 years easily.
