Last 5 years: Fury - Wilder x 3 and Wallin. Whyte - Povetkin, Parker, Rivas, Chisora x2, Helenius and Wach. It's clear since Fury has come out retirement who has beaten the better opposition.
Whyte been dropped by AJ, Povetkin and Rivas.Big difference from being dropped by guys not known for their punching power in Fury,Scroniers and Nicholls (two of which are journeyman). Chisora has a better wins than Wilder. Hughie Fury is styliscally a bad match for Wilder.
Ruiz also has a far better career win than Wilder. Hunter stylistically all wrong Wilder (plus Hunter peformances against Povetkin and Bakole are better than anything Wilder has done) excellent judge of distance, aggressive, applys intelligent pressure, hard hitting, good foot work, quick hands and a tough chin. I'd be amazed if Wilder lasted 3 rounds against Hunter.
Whyte was also knocked down by Parker. Wilder's fights with Sconiers and Nicholls were very early in his career, to be fair. It's correct to surmise he has improved since then.
Yes, but Wilder never faced AJ. AJ lost to a guy (Ruiz) who has no remarkable resume before or since that win. But you want to pick apart fighters who BEAT fighters with weak resumes, but winning is better than losing.
Completely agree AJ seems stuck between styles and has become gun shy.... you can't hesitate against Wilder who can close the distance extremely fast with his feet and if he can land one of his bombs on Fury then he can certainly land on AJ. Plus for me, Wilder has shown he's more willing to "go to the well" to win than AJ....
Them knockdowns you reference were 11 years ago Mitch. How are they relevant? This is what I'm talking about with context that you ignore. Fury wasn't renowned for being a big puncher because he was a 17 stone backfoot, switch hitting, elusive fighter for many years who was fine with seeing fights out on points rather than sitting on his punches. He's now not far off 20 stone. He just went into his last 2 fights with Wilder as the puncher. He hits f*****g hard mate. Context.
I thought he was very sloppy and should have gotten rid of his exhausted opponent several rounds earlier.
Fury got dropped on his back garden when he was 12 by Shane Fury. If he got knocked down by a non-puncher like that imagine what Whyte would do to him. Ignore the fact it was 21 years ago, you can't argue with resumes and Whyte beating Wach beats anything Fury has ever done.
