In the light of Fury vs. Wilder 3 (which, historically, was a great Heavyweight Lineal Title Fight, with both men showing plentiful Courage and Heart) can someone please explain to me in detail how someone like Sonny Liston was slow and without skills again, when compared to our Modern wonders?

    Heck, now I'm interested.
The Liston who beat Patterson (both times) would have walked through either of those fighters imo. Far better boxer and finisher than Wilder, better puncher than Fury (by a decent margin).

I don’t remember anyone saying Sonny was without skills. I don’t think he had elite hand or foot speed.

As far as how he’d do against a behemoth like Fury, I would lean toward the big guy. He’s able to be nimble on his feet and box and be elusive and at the same time he can maul in close and wear you down.

It’s hard to appreciate what it’s like to be in with such a larger guy with such length — you have to take 2-3 steps back just to be out of range and take a deep breath … you’re always in the danger zone, and that takes a toll on stamina.

It would be the same fighting Wilder, although Sonny’s chances would be better but if he takes that right hand solid I don’t think there’s many who could take that. Fury has amazing recuperative powers and it’s not reasonable to assume that anyone else takes those and is able to recover and keep going.

Liston is not walking through Fury.

If he boxes and uses his Jab he could win, but right now I say Fury takes this one.

Some would argue that Fury never even fought someone the level of prime Liston, much less beat them.

I'd favor Liston over both but would give Fury an excellent chance of pulling an upset. And with that right hand, Wilder's always has that puncher's chance. Wilder is quite possibly the biggest underachiever in heavyweight history. So much unrealized potential had he learned even the basic fundamentals of boxing.

Wilder would probably hit the canvas if Liston landed a jab square. Sonny's natural fight would be to work behind that jab, force Wilder backwards. Let the powershots follow. He could read everything Deontay did.
Fury is a tougher fight.. because he can fight. That height with coordination and a good ring IQ. Sonny Liston would be the quicker man but Fury would have the weight edge to any extreme. If Liston is able to apply smart pressure, force Fury to fight hard each round. Liston could wear him down.

Liston is by far the most underrated HW on the forum. Not only did he have the power. But his stamina is only matched by the likes of Marciano and Frazier. Think he would give modern HWs hell. Usyk Liston would have been something.

I'm sure if Liston could withstand the power of "Big Cat"Williams x2 and Folley ,
he also fought through a broken jaw early on in his career without being stopped
He wouldn't have much of a problem taking Wilders overrated Power.
The problem wouldn't come from Wilder hitting Liston but when Liston hit
Wilder. Judging by how Wilder was effected by the relatively light punches
in all three fights from Fury, it would be a short easy night from a real
    pro boxer puncher like Liston.
Especially with all the wild wide amateurish punches that Wilder uses.
A good counter puncher would beat him damn near dead.

He certainly wasn't without skills but his speed was average not slow.....Ali made a big deal of his speed but after watching Listons fights he is accurate and well timed....his reach seemed to surprise his opponents but where he appeared slow IMO had nothing to do with actually being slow it was his demeanor was like an executioner he fought like he had no urgency.

Liston may have been quicker than Fury as they were but Fury has a huge speed advantage P4P. I agree with the rest of your post.
