Im not Fury so me overlooking him means nothing, I’m just telling you he ain’t winning that fight. Fury is better outside, better inside, obviously far bigger, and even if you give Usyk the skill advantage it’s not by enough to overcompensate for all the disadvantages. I respect Usyk, he a great fighter, but he’s not winning this fight. He could beat Wilder, AJ again, possibly…but Fury is different.
He ain’t better on the outside(which, the suggestion itself is the only pipe dream in this equation). Fury would be facing a guy with better reflexes for the first time. He’d be the one to be made to miss with his punches for the first time. He’d be forced to cut the ring off for the first time and he’d be up against an opponent with superior engine and workrate for the first time. And aside from leaning on, mauling and ragdolling(which is actually the part that makes me nervous about this match up as an Usyk fan, but you need to cut the ring off and land punches to get someone in the position to use bu those tactics) he ain’t better on the inside either. Usyk is better at putting his punches together, has better combinations and a better guard on all quarters in addition to a considerable hand speed advantage.
Fury’s range, if he chose to stay outside and box behind his jab, is far beyond Usyk’s. Even Fury landed 10% of his jabs, what percentage is Usyk landing from that distance? If Usyk slid underneath and got inside and Fury just clinched and reset, rinse and repeat. He could stink it out and win on points. “Better” may not have been the right word, in a head to head matchup he has the advantage of having the higher likelihood of effectiveness. I don’t think Usyk can dictate range to Fury.
If it was the 27 year old, 247 lbs Fury that beat Wlad, I’d agree. But this 30 something, 270+ lbs, putting all his weight on his punches Fury is a lot slower so I think Usyk can take advantage. Hopefully we’ll find out.
