I was ok with the 2 quid start, sweated profusely at the though of the price increase and cancelled!!
I wonder if this was all planned from the get go - gradually increase the standard price before eventually revealing the masterplan which was PPV's on DAZN or if their projected subscriber numbers are well below what was expected and DAZN are getting desperate for revenue and so the introduction of PPV's. My guess would be the latter. For most sports fans in the UK streaming just isn't as appealing or convenient as watching it on traditional TV. Said it before but Eddie really believed that the mismatch laden cards he served up on Sky once or at most twice a month on Sky would be more than enough to make DAZN as a standalone service a success but once the actual numbers of subscribers started coming in he got a rude awakening and so the panic influenced price increase and now PPV intro.
I have never been against paying for a fight I want to watch. If DAZN are looking to charge more for ‘marquee fights’ I will reconsider my position. There are plenty of good fighters out there who are capable of entertaining the fans, with out charging silly money. The recent Liverpool card had it all and is a good example. Will be interesting to hear the powers that be justify ppv after all that has been said.
I read the email about the price increase, immediately logged into DAZN and pressed that unsubscribe button quicker than Earn saying Game Changed. The supply of mugths must be in danger of waking up soon.
The DAZN streams are all approx 60 secs or more in cases behind the live action - that is not live but highlights of a live event. Test it out tomorrow on the Women's Champions League Football and compare the time with Bet365. Perhaps if they buy BT Sports it will all be back on a TV Platform.
It may well have but means nothing if the majority of subscribers unsubscribe after the first month This is a problem DAZN will continue to have until they start locking down more content. Also I am not sure why people are laying all the blame at hearn when it comes to DAZN and future PPV rumors. DAZN management first and foremost will be the ones who want that PPV money. I and others have said before that £7.99 subscription rates would never cover the kind of money AJ earns from Sky box office for example. The numbers just don't add up, either subs need a price hike or you go down the PPV route. Another price hike in subscription fees would lose all trust with the customer base so DAZN have to be careful. PPV is probably the lesser of the two evils when it comes to keeping brand loyalty.
Since ending my subscription I haven't received any questionnaires. You would think they would want the opinion of people who subscribed from day 1 who have now subsequently left.
I’d like to know how many people have left DAZN and if the price of £8 is more profitable than the price of £2. In other words have DAZN kept on one subscriber at £8 but lost three. I suspect it’s a close run thing.
Hearn says the sign ups before Saturday were really strong but it depends on whether you think his lying or not. Historically when he used to reveal ppv numbers he never used to try and lie and was pretty open so I would give him the benefit of the doubt here.
They wouldn't have done as that's when it was £1.99 so at that price people would just let it run. By the time £7.99 hit many subscribers either forget they have it, can't be hassled with cancelling and resigning for a card they like so again fall into the trap of just letting the subscription run. I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers that cancelled at £7.99 was relatively low as people in general don't always cancel even though they want to. Gym memberships where members haven't visited in months but never cancel is a well known trait. What matchroom really need to do is have must see cards every 4-5 weeks as people won't keep signing up and then cancelling only to sign up again. Eventually they would get sick of doing that and just let the subscription run month to month.
DAZN streams are between 80 and 130 seconds behind the live events so is is basically a £7.99 subscription for the highlights of one UK card per month. Probably the worst value I have seen so I AM OUT.
