I have seen countless assessments by specialists, ranking this fight among the best in heavyweight, if not in boxing history.

Don't get me wrong, it was a very good and entertaining fight but, bar the fourth round (Fury was hurt but never dramatically hurt), it was also a one-sided, vicious beating.

Wilder never had anything than a puncher chance and was basically a walking corpse after round 5. He should have been stopped well before the KO.

Hardly one sided. Fury got knocked down twice and was clipped quite a few times. It was competitive enough for the first half of the fight and Wilder was still dangerous while hurt.

It was more or less a contemporary version of Foreman v Lyle.

I think it had alot to do with the Drama of the fight. Wilder coming out with an actual gameplan, jabbing to the body, hitting him with hooks to the body, nobody thought he was going to come out like that(*cough). Then Fury knocks Wilder down in the 3rd, survives then goes on to knock down Fury two times in the 4th.

That in itself made for the drama to come later on as well. In this era that was one of the best fights in the heavyweight division, and i also think it was amped by the fact that it was an american vs a brit. Wilder kept throwing those bombs and at times looked like they were hurting Fury, and then fury was coming back hurting Wilder, it was Back and Forth until the end, though Wilder took the most damage he went out on his shield. And thats what made it a great fight. Does it stand up to Other great HW fights like Ali-frazier, Ali-Foreman Holyfield-Tyson 1, Holyfield-Bowe, Holyfield-Foreman to name a few. Maybe not.

It was one sided. The thing that makes it appear otherwise is the threat of Wilder's power. You are at the edge of your seat thinking he could end it at any time. Wilder was badly beaten up though. Fury was not. He just took some good rights here and there.

I think watching Wilder take a one-sided beating for most of 11 rounds was great.
And his own brief successes added some drama.

It was exciting & dramatic, but not a great fight. Too much holding, grabbing etc. The ref shouted 'stop' so many times, surprised he didn't deduct points. For excitement 9/10. The fight 7/10.

This. I’ve even heard some people say this fight was on the level of the FOTC, which is crazy. The fight was barely competitive.

If Mora wasn’t the Referee Fury likely would’ve ended the fight in a few rounds, since Wilder was still helpless every time Fury clinched him. When Mora kept breaking up the clinches Fury simply took his time using Wilder like a punching bag.

It's just the typical heavyweight fangirling. For some reason these people would rather watch bloated blobs throw ten punches a round than two top tier lightweights rip it up. If there is a bit of back and forth it suddenly becomes an 'ATG' fight. Fury vs Wilder 3 isn't that impressive if you've watched great fights from literally any other weight division.

You could say the same about the two Ortiz fights thought, especially the 2nd fight, where Ortiz won every round and Wilder just stood there doing nothing but landed a big right and that was it.

It doesn't matter if the majority of the fight was one sided vs Wilder. He wasn't out of the fight until the final couple of rounds or so.

    Agreed! For a reminder people. Watch Gatti/Ward 1, Corrales/Castillo 1, Vasquez/Marquez. Far better than Fury/Wilder 3.

Yeah I think we are a bit, it was a great fight to watch and fury was great again but it was scrappy.
It was wilders chin and the danger of his right hand that made it exciting when you analyse it after rnd 4 then fury kicked his arse in terms of the actual boxing.

I think fury beats all other hw out there at the moment easily.
I think wilder showed enough power to suggest he’d beat Joshua whose chin isn’t that great.

You are sooo right mate, I have struggled ( over 50 years ) to understand why the HW are lauded out of proportion to their skill set ! they are obscenely overpaid compared to a very good WW or LW or FW title fight. keep well.

Exactly so, we had a doofus arguing why Wilder was elevated to "ATG" level by this fight and the argument he had was because Foreman and Tyson said so .
