Eddie Futch ranked him joint top with Ali and Louis.

As a Heavyweight, Gene Tunney. He has a solid win and a close call win, over a shot Dempsey, in 10 round fights. Many have him in their top 10 Heavyweights of all time, and I have no idea why.

good point, although that win against Arguello is regarded as so great and his other wins were so dominant, people have a hard time ignoring that. Dominance even against lesser guys seems to get guys points.

Well like I said he again waited for another fighter ( Jacob's) to get past it and it was still close then he choses a completely shot Kovalev. When the Kovalev fight looked like it might not work out Bivol offered to step in at either 168 or 175 and nothing but silence from Canelo. So he still goes after past it fighters just to claim a scalp and that's lame in my book. But yes he has looked better in his last 2 fights I'll give you that. I'm not gonna count the total mismatch against I believe a Turkish fighter?

Canelo and Tyson deserve it more than Camacho and Cotto, who looked like they could be great but came up short. Camacho was not an atg, but an atg performer.. I will give him that.

The Arguello "win" was a robbery.

Ah yes Zivic I forgot about him, you got me there, the guy with over 60 losses . Corbett was at the end of his career , the rest of the guys are double digit losses . Trying to pretend like you were around back then and you know who these guys were is silly. Lhw was at it's weakest you shouldn't try to let these guys records slide just because they were old fighters.

Again they were guys that were beaten a lot. It's not impressive by today's standards. Guys back then fought a lot and we're run down by previous fights . You'd have guys who were koed a month earlier and then fighting again. Lhw was the division that the good fighters passed for hw. He was also beaten by a average boxer Solly Krieger. Too many bums got his number. He was a good boxer but not an all time great.

Plus he was on the cusp of beating Joe freakin' Louis until he got careless. Considering the significant weight difference, that is a great feat.

Biggest benefactor of the circular reasoning to do with Ali.

If you give Ali a tough fight you must be great right because Ali is great?

Now forgive me for getting this wrong If it is the case.
But did Louis not drain himself down so he didn't seem like a bully?

Right, and even on its face, the Ali Effect seems pretty implausible. What are the odds that ATG fighters all happen to be born in the 70s, where they just happen to give a past prime Ali hard fights because they're all awesome?
