He does not need to fight Whyte, he beats AJ/Usyk and thats all she wrote. Whyte's been sparked by AJ and a geriatric Povetkin, he's not in the conversation. You don't need to go and periodically beat every single fighter in the division, thats ridiculous.
Fights Usyk then retires. Not any challenges left really. It's a weak division with a few young guns waiting their turn. Fury will be long gone by then. Time with the family, count the cash, enjoy life.
It's a sensible thing to say after a big fight when you just want to rest and people are keen to talk about the next fight. "I might retire" puts the intelligent questioner into his place. Obviously the dumbasses won't take the hint and try to read more into it.
I posted a thread on this right after the fight. He taken a lot of punishment, a fighter’s brain can only take so much before things start going downhill. It also seems like he won’t or can’t get himself in shape anymore. He’s accomplished everything there is to do in boxing. Won all the belts, beat the man who beat the man etc. Fighting Usyk does little for his legacy. All of his generational rivals he’s either beaten or are no longer viable opponents anymore. He’s made a ton of money as well so this is a good time to bow out while he still has his health intact.
For me the biggets issue is Fury's mindset... he currently goes down as one of the greats. IMO we should get the Whyte, Usyk, AJ fights (plus Hrgovic and Joyce, but its unlikely) and let them all fight eachother as that would be the proof.... however fury struggles to get motivated at times and it would be a gmable for him to fight those fights. His stock currently is at an all time high... but it could be undoubted and undisputable if he did.
Liquorice is 100% right. Whyte is a good heavyweight but he's by no means the bogeyman that some people seem to think he is. He's at least a clear level below the 4 big dogs. Let's see how he does against Wallin before getting too excited. He's not the guy people want to see against the top guys, we want to see the top guys against each other.
He absolutely does not need Whyte at all. If he wanted to fight him as a "grudge match" so be it, but Whyte is not a king maker nor is facing him of any importance historically. . Usyk (the current unified champion), Joshua (the former 2x unified champion), and Ruiz (former unified champion) are honestly all he would need. If he beats them, that would mean that he has bested every other contemporary champion that at one point was ranked at least number 1 or 2 during his career. That is a HOF ticket. I can see Fury retiring without any of them though. He seems to be a one foot out the door type of guy
Come on now what are you basing that on, 1 fight? In the second fight against Wilder he was in amazing shape. You are being way way too harsh there mate.
and while the AJ, Whyte, Usyk, Fury negotiations drag on Funtime Frank Sanchez starts turning heads and people will say Fury can't retire unless he fights Sanchez, there is always another name you can't keep going forever. I've never been much of a Fury fan but if he wants to retire then he's earned it This content is protected
If he don't fight Whyte, he would definitely not fight Usyk. Fury's just gonna waste everyones time like he did in the past.
Total bollocks pal, he's earned his shot totally if he beats Wallin and refusing to fight him or any mando is a duck and a stripping. Totally irrelevant how you think it will go. I think Fury wins also but it's hw boxing and no chin is sacred.
